1) The recipe is for Machher Jhol, a Bengali fish dish made with white fish, mustard oil, spices like turmeric, coriander, cumin, ginger and chillies. 2) The fish is rubbed with turmeric and salt and shallow fried until lightly browned. 3) A spice paste of coriander, cumin, ginger, turmeric and chilli is made with water and used to cook the fish in a pan with onions, bay leaves and chillies in water for 10-15 minutes.
