1 Introduction
On a beautiful tree-lined
street, where Midtown and Uptown
meet, stands 200E62. From the
buzz and bustle that is synonymous
with Midtown to the tranquility of
Central Park, from highly respected
educational institutions to the
world-class cultural highlights of
Museum Mile and the Upper East
Side, this unique neighborhood
represents the best NewYork City
has to ofer.
Inside, the fast pace of the
city recedes. Messana O’Rorke
has interpreted O’Connor Capital
Partners’ vision, reimagining the
building with an open and refresh-
ingly contemporary design. The
arrival, interiors and amenities are
imbued with a sense of calm and
a reined sophistication.

2 Interior Architect
Messana O’Rorke believes
in the ability of design to enhance
quality of life. The irm consistently
applies this credo across its body
of work which includes a wide range
of commercial and retail projects
throughout the United States—
as well as over ifty private homes
in New York alone, and others
around the world.
As a result, the irm has
developed an exceptionally broad
portfolio characterized by its fusion
of modern design, contemporary
culture, and technical innovation.
12 — 13
Angel’s Edge — Malibu, California
The house relects the three principle charac-
teristics of the location: the Paciic Ocean, the
Paciic Coast Highway and the sloping site.
It’s this slope that not only allows for dramatic
views of the ocean but also innovative design
elements like the roof-top main entrance, from
which one descends through the reception
rooms and into the private spaces below.
Ten Broeck Cottage — Columbia County, NewYork
Three centuries separate the original Columbia
County house and Messana O’Rorke’s augmentation
of it. A continued commitment to clean lines
and functional simplicity brings them together.
Interior Architect — Messana O’Rorke
14 — 15
Phoenix House — Phoenix, Arizona
The tectonic mechanisms that formed the
landscape are the inspiration behind the massive
parallel walls and solid simplicity of Phoenix
House. A sky-lit corridor separates the private
spaces from the public ones, and the cool
promise of the deeply shaded veranda from
the rugged desert horizon.
12th Street — New York, New York
Not so much in need of renovation as rejuve-
nation, the apartment retained the stately good
looks bestowed by famed developers Bing &
Bing in the early 1900s. Messana O’Rorke’s
contemporary application of traditional ma-
terials—black slate, white lacquer and statuary
marble—helps ensure another century of
timeless elegance.
Interior Architect — Messana O’Rorke
16 — 17
Messana O’Rorke’s reputation for original thinking
applied to a profound understanding of materials
and mechanics is well deserved, and founded on
three fundamental principles:
i. The building must integrate with the sur-
rounding environment in both form and function.
ii. In the case of redevelopments, the spirit
of the original building must remain intact. Rather
than rebuilding, Messana O’Rorke reinterpret,
juxtaposing modern materials and methods with
older, more traditional ones.
iii. The interior architecture must anticipate
and facilitate the homeowner’s lifestyle. This
ability to tailor their designs to individual tastes
and habits sets Messana O’Rorke apart.
Whatever the project and wherever it is,
Messana O’Rorke’s work is deined not so much
by a certain style as by an approach born of
technical innovation and tempered by a highly
cultivated aesthetic sensibility.
Interior Architect — Messana O’Rorke
Malin+Goetz — New York, New York
It’s perfectly possible for a person to have
diferent homes in completely diferent places
that both relect his or her personality. The same
is true for a brand. Malin+Goetz’s new Carnegie
Hill home has just the right level of understated
sophistication to allow the brand to stay true to
itself yet also blend in with its environment.

Opposite — Brian Messana (left) moved to
New York from L.A. twenty-ive years ago
and ive years later teamed up with British
fellow architect Toby O’Rorke (right).
200E62 represents Messana O’Rorke’s debut
in the ield of multi-residential interior design.
Ask Brian Messana what convinced
him and Toby O’Rorke to dedicate themselves
to such a large and complex project, and the
answer is unequivocal.
“Until now, we could never be sure
we would be working with partners who
were committed to the same things as us,”
he says. “Partners who would accommodate
our approach and appreciate our eye for
detail. Partners who wouldn’t compromise.
This seemed like the right project at the right
time with the right people.”
22 — 23
Sitting among the neatly arranged material samples,
sketches and swatches for 200E62, Brian Messana
is clearly proud of his work.
When asked how they’ve managed to give
the residences such an abundant, airy feel, he takes
a moment to choose his words.
“Three things,” he says. “First, people don’t
live like they used to. Architects used to separate
things out. Kitchen here, dining room there, living
room over there. But lifestyles have changed, so we
don’t do that. Rather than separating a home into
a series of small rooms, we open up the loor plans
wherever possible, allowing light to ilter through.
And we’ve integrated the storage spaces into the
structure, so they’re as discrete as they
are functional.
“Second, we’ve been able to bring out the
best of the building’s existing architecture and
make the most of the extraordinary views. I’m proud
of the open, airy efect of our designs, but these
residences don’t just seem big—they are big.
“Third, it’s the materials we decided to
use. When, as we have, one removes everything
superluous, even the smallest detail becomes of
paramount importance. So we needed a palette
that was strong but understated. Something
quietly compelling,” he explains, “that is timeless
and beautiful in its simplicity.”
Above — Rather than breaking up an interior into
smaller, separate spaces, Messana O’Rorke seeks to
open it up—not just to its own perimeter but to the
expansive views of the city beyond.
Above — Messana O’Rorke’s work is the result of
a highly developed imaginative sensibility under-
pinned by an engineer’s commitment to precision.
Interior Architect — Messana O’Rorke
24 — 25
“The task, we felt, was to deliver an appropriate
architectural response to both the building and the
neighborhood,” says Brian Messana. “We’ve taken
downtown living, reined it just a little, and brought
it uptown.”
The apparent simplicity of Messana O’Rorke’s
designs isn’t easy to achieve. In fact, it requires
rigorous planning. Nor is this simplicity a purely
personal aesthetic preference.
“We suspect that residents here are going to
be looking for something a little unexpected. It’s
another reason we’ve kept things simple,” says Brian
Messana. “They’ll be adding their own pop of color.
Their own pictures. Their own individuality. What
we’ve done merely makes it easier for people to
make themselves at home.”
Interior Architect — Messana O’Rorke

From the open, light-illed
layouts, to the elegant and under-
stated materials, every element
of the building has been designed
with the residents in mind.
No detail has been over-
looked, each one contributing
to the overall atmosphere of
soft-spoken luxury and discreet
sophistication.

O’Rorke’s view of making life simpler

Luxury Condominium Residence - 200 East 62 Street

  • 1.
  • 3. 4 — 5 7 Introduction 11 Interior Architect 27 Residences 55 Amenities 69 Neighborhood 103 Team
  • 4. 6 — 7 1 Introduction On a beautiful tree-lined street, where Midtown and Uptown meet, stands 200E62. From the buzz and bustle that is synonymous with Midtown to the tranquility of Central Park, from highly respected educational institutions to the world-class cultural highlights of Museum Mile and the Upper East Side, this unique neighborhood represents the best NewYork City has to ofer. Inside, the fast pace of the city recedes. Messana O’Rorke has interpreted O’Connor Capital Partners’ vision, reimagining the building with an open and refresh- ingly contemporary design. The arrival, interiors and amenities are imbued with a sense of calm and a reined sophistication.
  • 6. 10 — 11 2 Interior Architect Messana O’Rorke believes in the ability of design to enhance quality of life. The irm consistently applies this credo across its body of work which includes a wide range of commercial and retail projects throughout the United States— as well as over ifty private homes in New York alone, and others around the world. As a result, the irm has developed an exceptionally broad portfolio characterized by its fusion of modern design, contemporary culture, and technical innovation.
  • 7. 12 — 13 Angel’s Edge — Malibu, California The house relects the three principle charac- teristics of the location: the Paciic Ocean, the Paciic Coast Highway and the sloping site. It’s this slope that not only allows for dramatic views of the ocean but also innovative design elements like the roof-top main entrance, from which one descends through the reception rooms and into the private spaces below. Ten Broeck Cottage — Columbia County, NewYork Three centuries separate the original Columbia County house and Messana O’Rorke’s augmentation of it. A continued commitment to clean lines and functional simplicity brings them together. Interior Architect — Messana O’Rorke
  • 8. 14 — 15 Phoenix House — Phoenix, Arizona The tectonic mechanisms that formed the landscape are the inspiration behind the massive parallel walls and solid simplicity of Phoenix House. A sky-lit corridor separates the private spaces from the public ones, and the cool promise of the deeply shaded veranda from the rugged desert horizon. 12th Street — New York, New York Not so much in need of renovation as rejuve- nation, the apartment retained the stately good looks bestowed by famed developers Bing & Bing in the early 1900s. Messana O’Rorke’s contemporary application of traditional ma- terials—black slate, white lacquer and statuary marble—helps ensure another century of timeless elegance. Interior Architect — Messana O’Rorke
  • 9. 16 — 17 Messana O’Rorke’s reputation for original thinking applied to a profound understanding of materials and mechanics is well deserved, and founded on three fundamental principles: i. The building must integrate with the sur- rounding environment in both form and function. ii. In the case of redevelopments, the spirit of the original building must remain intact. Rather than rebuilding, Messana O’Rorke reinterpret, juxtaposing modern materials and methods with older, more traditional ones. iii. The interior architecture must anticipate and facilitate the homeowner’s lifestyle. This ability to tailor their designs to individual tastes and habits sets Messana O’Rorke apart. Whatever the project and wherever it is, Messana O’Rorke’s work is deined not so much by a certain style as by an approach born of technical innovation and tempered by a highly cultivated aesthetic sensibility. Interior Architect — Messana O’Rorke Malin+Goetz — New York, New York It’s perfectly possible for a person to have diferent homes in completely diferent places that both relect his or her personality. The same is true for a brand. Malin+Goetz’s new Carnegie Hill home has just the right level of understated sophistication to allow the brand to stay true to itself yet also blend in with its environment.
  • 11. 20 — 21Page — XX Interior Architects — Process Opposite — Brian Messana (left) moved to New York from L.A. twenty-ive years ago and ive years later teamed up with British fellow architect Toby O’Rorke (right). 200E62 represents Messana O’Rorke’s debut in the ield of multi-residential interior design. Ask Brian Messana what convinced him and Toby O’Rorke to dedicate themselves to such a large and complex project, and the answer is unequivocal. “Until now, we could never be sure we would be working with partners who were committed to the same things as us,” he says. “Partners who would accommodate our approach and appreciate our eye for detail. Partners who wouldn’t compromise. This seemed like the right project at the right time with the right people.”
  • 12. 22 — 23 Sitting among the neatly arranged material samples, sketches and swatches for 200E62, Brian Messana is clearly proud of his work. When asked how they’ve managed to give the residences such an abundant, airy feel, he takes a moment to choose his words. “Three things,” he says. “First, people don’t live like they used to. Architects used to separate things out. Kitchen here, dining room there, living room over there. But lifestyles have changed, so we don’t do that. Rather than separating a home into a series of small rooms, we open up the loor plans wherever possible, allowing light to ilter through. And we’ve integrated the storage spaces into the structure, so they’re as discrete as they are functional. “Second, we’ve been able to bring out the best of the building’s existing architecture and make the most of the extraordinary views. I’m proud of the open, airy efect of our designs, but these residences don’t just seem big—they are big. “Third, it’s the materials we decided to use. When, as we have, one removes everything superluous, even the smallest detail becomes of paramount importance. So we needed a palette that was strong but understated. Something quietly compelling,” he explains, “that is timeless and beautiful in its simplicity.” Above — Rather than breaking up an interior into smaller, separate spaces, Messana O’Rorke seeks to open it up—not just to its own perimeter but to the expansive views of the city beyond. Above — Messana O’Rorke’s work is the result of a highly developed imaginative sensibility under- pinned by an engineer’s commitment to precision. Interior Architect — Messana O’Rorke
  • 13. 24 — 25 “The task, we felt, was to deliver an appropriate architectural response to both the building and the neighborhood,” says Brian Messana. “We’ve taken downtown living, reined it just a little, and brought it uptown.” The apparent simplicity of Messana O’Rorke’s designs isn’t easy to achieve. In fact, it requires rigorous planning. Nor is this simplicity a purely personal aesthetic preference. “We suspect that residents here are going to be looking for something a little unexpected. It’s another reason we’ve kept things simple,” says Brian Messana. “They’ll be adding their own pop of color. Their own pictures. Their own individuality. What we’ve done merely makes it easier for people to make themselves at home.” Interior Architect — Messana O’Rorke
  • 14. 26 — 27 3 Residences From the open, light-illed layouts, to the elegant and under- stated materials, every element of the building has been designed with the residents in mind. No detail has been over- looked, each one contributing to the overall atmosphere of soft-spoken luxury and discreet sophistication.

From the sleek eiciency of the itness room and the playful palette in the children’s playroom, to the intimate spaces of the immaculate rooftop terrace, 200E62 ofers exclusive amenities that elevate the lifestyle of its residents in a neighborhood that is already brimming with the best cultural, retail and recreation- al opportunities that New York City has to ofer.
