“EPS-SG/Jason-CS/Sentinel-6 Simulations Officer, Simulator Procurement, System
and Operations Preparation Senior Engineer” tasks at EUMETSAT include general
Operations Preparation aspects and focuses on Simulator procurement support and Simulations
Officer tasks and responsibilities.
LSE´s Senior Engineer Michelangelo Ambrosini who holds this position currently working with
EPS-SG and also Jason-CS and Sentinel-6 Operations Preparations at EUMETSAT.
Specifically as EPS-SG Simulations Officer, Simulator Procurement, System and
Operations Preparation Senior Engineer, at EUMETSAT Michelangelo is part of the EPS-SG
Operations Preparation Integrated Team (OPIT) in the Low Earth Orbit Division (LEO), involved in
supporting the development of the EPS-SG System in the field of System Engineering and also
contributes to the definition and Operations Preparation of EPS-SG. The support focuses on
Operations Preparation definition and coordination for System Operations aspects, Simulator
procurement support and Simulations Officer.
EPS-SG represents Europe's contribution to the future Joint Polar System
(JPS), which is planned to be established together with the National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the United States, following on
from the Initial Joint Polar System (IJPS).
The EPS-SG Programme is expected to be one of the most important sources of
satellite observations for all forecasts based on NWP in the 2020–2040 time frames. The European
Space Agency (ESA) will develop the Metop-SG satellites and a number of instruments, with CNES and
DLR developing some of the key instruments. EUMETSAT will provide the launch and LEOP services
and operate the satellites for a nominal duration of 21 years.

As for Jason-CS and Sentinel-6, our Senior Engineer is involved at the
Operations Preparation in the LEO Division of the PRD Department at
EUMETSAT. The tasks include overall coordination and management of the
development and maintenance of the Jason-CS/Sentinel-6 Reference
Operations Plan (ROP) and Mission Operations Concept Document (MOCD).
The Jason-CS Programme is EUMETSAT's direct contribution to the funding,
development and implementation of the Sentinel-6 mission, also involving ESA, the EU and
NOAA.
The Sentinel-6 radar altimeter mission is part of the Copernicus Programme, with the objective
of providing high-precision measurements of global sea-level.
Sentinel-6 aims to continue high precision ocean altimetry
measurements in the 2020–2030 time-frame using two successive,
identical satellites, Jason-CS-A and Jason-CS-B. A secondary objective
of Sentinel-6 is to collect high resolution vertical profiles of
temperature, using the GNSS Radio-Occultation sounding technique,
to assess temperature changes in the troposphere and stratosphere
and to support Numerical Weather Prediction.
