Lower abdominal pain can have several potential causes depending on whether the patient is gynecological (not pregnant) or obstetric (pregnant). [1] For gyne patients, causes may include ovarian cysts, pelvic inflammatory disease, complicated fibroids, cancer, or endometriosis. [2] For obstetric patients early in pregnancy, potential causes are ectopic pregnancy, abortion, molar pregnancy, or UTI/gastrointestinal issues. [3] For obstetric patients later in pregnancy, causes may be preterm labor, placental abruption, or UTI/gastrointestinal issues.
