Lough Gur Crannóg is the remains of a Celtic home called a crannóg located in Lough Gur lake about 15 km from the school. It was a manmade, defended island dwelling from 500BC to 100AC that was about 30m across and likely supported one household. It had a circular structure of large poles on the outside and a mud and woven stick base with a conical thatched roof that had a smoke hole in the center. Residents accessed the island by boat or hidden stepping logs beneath the water.
