2. Introduction
Having been listed by Barron’s as one of California’s top financial advisers,
Gary Fournier serves as a money manager at JP Morgan of Los Angeles. As
a philanthropist, Gary Fournier donates to agencies such as the Toberman
Neighborhood Center.
Toberman is involved in reducing gang violence. In response to community
concerns, it created a Gang Intervention Department in 1977. This initiative
collaborates with Toberman’s Family Source Center and Family, Children,
and Youth Center. It incorporates best practices of those departments and
shares strategies in a unified vision of service.
The certified intervention staff employs a two-pronged approach to create a
peaceful environment. First, the organization engages in crisis resolution
and mediation to arrange non-aggression agreements. Social support to
victims and families supplements this peacekeeping goal.
The second prong consists of individual support services, such as recovery
from substance abuse, anger management, and counseling. Mentors advise
on parenting and educational issues, while Toberman provides emergency
clothing, food, and shelter if necessary, as well.
