Long term care. Nursing Home and Subacute Care During the nineteenth and the twentieth century, the term "nursing home" was synonymous with long-term care. Although today the exclusive use of the term "long-term care" is no longer accurate for nursing homes, it continues to remain and will not change easily. However, newer terms such as "nursing facilities" will help clarify the role of specific long-term care organizations and will differentiate them from others in the health care industry. Subacute care is a relatively new but rapidly growing medical service in the continuum of care. Today, it is considered the fastest growing segment of the health care delivery system. 1. I agree that the changes made with CMS (center for Medicare and Medicaid Services) how changed the guidelines for how providers can bill for services. One of the biggest changes was the upgrade of ICD codes which has expanded enormously to be more specific with diagnosis and services to bill for. I work for a program of hospice, called palliative care, and the change over from using ICD9 codes to ICD10 was a very large task that took time to switch over to but I have come to realize that changes in health care are inevitable and to be prepared for things to change constantly. With being a palliative care program I don't think the change was as big of an impact on us like I'm sure it was for a hospital. Our program provides education on disease progress for chronic illnesses such a chronic kidney disease, hypertension, diabetes, cancer, heart disease and so on. The amount of ICD 10 codes we use are minimal compared to what a hospital would see. Nonetheless the codes are way more specific now which can be challenging when trying to narrow down for accuracy.
2. I think training and feedback are two important aspects of implementing electronic medical records. The users are the most important stakeholders and they should be trained properly. Their feedback should be taken seriously as this helps with post implementation changes to the system. No one likes changes but change in any organization is essential. Technology has completely transformed the health care industry and from my experience resistance typically comes from the older generation who doesn't really understand the importance. Most are used to doing things manually. Most organizations are turning to the technology to transform their environment by cutting costs and ensuring that their revenues are coming in timely.

A few organizations, however, have recognized the possibilities created by social media and understand that health is extremely personal and materials prepared for mass audiences rarely address the unique concerns of individual patients. Moreover, when patients must access the

health care system they are unprepared for the experience, lost in the confusion of the high-technology environment of health care, and grasping for information. Social media has done much to change this situation. Patients can easily communicate with people across the globe, share common experiences and fears, discover the personal experiences faced by others, and access all types of medical information.
Unfortunately, many health care organizations choose to use social media as just another means of one-way communication. In some cases most of the organization's posts are designed to promote the hospital or medical practice rather than address patient issues and concerns. A few organizations, recognizing this temptation, develop policies that “no more than a certain percentage” of posts can be used for promotion purposes. At Inova Health System an effort is made to ensure that 80–90 percent of its posts address patient health rather than promoting the System.
Inova has made serious attempts to use social media effectively. It has created Facebook communities in specific areas such as wellness, pediatric care, bariatric surgery, and so on. Attempts are made to encourage users to trust Inova as a supplier of valuable health information. Information can be shared about the System but only after trust is built and the interests of the organization are consistent with the interests of the communities.
It is essential to remember why social media is important. The goal is to connect with friends and build communities around common interests and to share information better and faster. Furthermore, communicating poorly is almost as bad as not communicating. The quality of posts is more important than the quantity. Because real-time communication is so exciting we frequently confuse social media overuse with proper use. Designing social media that is honest and transparent is the important determinant of how likely individuals are to follow and participate in an organization's communication efforts.

China is expected to have some 200 million people in the middle-and upper-income categories by the early 2020s. This is a tenfold increase in people with significant purchasing power in China in the last decade, from only about 17 million people in these income brackets as recently as in 2010. China’s purchasing power for virtually all products and services has strong potential, and foreign companies now strategically try to take advantage of these market opportunities.
What have we learned culturally that can help companies establish themselves in China’s marketplace? What went wrong early on? The experience of well-known companies such as Best Buy and eBay can serve as a learning experience for others. From a retail perspective, the motivation for many foreign companies to enter China some years ago – beyond those companies that have been in China for decades to achieve low-cost production-was the triple growth of the Chinse economy that was seen from 2000 to 2010.
With this growth, China overlook Japan to become the second-largest economy in the world behind only the United States, and its large population makes for an enormous target market. Investment from foreign companies was the largest driver of China’s growth. Many companies also increased their exports to China. The United States, for example, saw its companies increase exports to China by 542 percent from 2000 to 2011 (from about $16.2 billion to $103.9 billion), while total exports to the rest of the world by U.S. companies increased by only 80 percent in the same time period. Exporting to China has become somewhat stagnant in the last few years, now representing about $113 billion.
Interestingly, domestic consumption as a share of the Chinese economy has declined from 46 percent to 33 percent. This consumption decline-coupled with slower growth globally-has raised questions about China’s momentum. Tight now, around 85 percent of mainstream Chinese consumers are living in the top 100 wealthiest cities. By the early 2020s, these advanced and developing cities will have relatively few customers who are lower than the middle-and upper-income brackets by Chinese standards. The expectation is that these consumers will be able to afford a range of developed nations’ products and services, such as flat-screen televisions and overseas travel, making the Chinese customer much more of a target for a wide variety of consumption.
But can the unprecedented Chinese growth really continue, and would it come from increased consumption? The resounding answer is yes, according to McKinsey & Company. McKinsey found that barring another major economic shock similar to what we saw in 2008, China’s gross domestic product (GDP) will continue to grow, albeit not at the historic levels seen between 2000 and 2010, when it grew about 10.4 percent annually. I used to work on a federal grant. The files of our clients were really important to us. The information from the files helped us document the work that we did and the outcomes that we had. If I forgot to record an interaction with a client or if I forgot to ask for the client feedback sheet from each visit, then we had a hole in the record. We also used our files to provide better services to our clients. But the pressure from the government made the second reason appear an afterthought.

China is expected to have some 200 million people in the middle-and upper-income categories by the early 2020s. This is a tenfold increase in people with significant purchasing power in China in the last decade, from only about 17 million people in these income brackets as recently as in 2010. China’s purchasing power for virtually all products and services has strong potential, and foreign companies now strategically try to take advantage of these market opportunities.
What have we learned culturally that can help companies establish themselves in China’s marketplace? What went wrong early on? The experience of well-known companies such as Best Buy and eBay can serve as a learning experience for others. From a retail perspective, the motivation for many foreign companies to enter China some years ago – beyond those companies that have been in China for decades to achieve low-cost production-was the triple growth of the Chinse economy that was seen from 2000 to 2010.
With this growth, China overlook Japan to become the second-largest economy in the world behind only the United States, and its large population makes for an enormous target market. Investment from foreign companies was the largest driver of China’s growth. Many companies also increased their exports to China. The United States, for example, saw its companies increase exports to China by 542 percent from 2000 to 2011 (from about $16.2 billion to $103.9 billion), while total exports to the rest of the world by U.S. companies increased by only 80 percent in the same time period. Exporting to China has become somewhat stagnant in the last few years, now representing about $113 billion.
Interestingly, domestic consumption as a share of the Chinese economy has declined from 46 percent to 33 percent. This consumption decline-coupled with slower growth globally-has raised questions about China’s momentum. Tight now, around 85 percent of mainstream Chinese consumers are living in the top 100 wealthiest cities. By the early 2020s, these advanced and developing cities will have relatively few customers who are lower than the middle-and upper-income brackets by Chinese standards. The expectation is that these consumers will be able to afford a range of developed nations’ products and services, such as flat-screen televisions and overseas travel, making the Chinese customer much more of a target for a wide variety of consumption.
But can the unprecedented Chinese growth really continue, and would it come from increased consumption? The resounding answer is yes, according to McKinsey & Company. McKinsey found that barring another major economic shock similar to what we saw in 2008, China’s gross domestic product (GDP) will continue to grow, albeit not at the historic levels seen between 2000 and 2010, when it grew about 10.4 percent annually. The growth in the 2020s is expected to be about 5.5 percent per year (until 2030), which is still far a.

The income statement is also known as the Profit and Loss Statement, P&L, Operating Statement, Earnings statement, and a few other names. At its most basic, this statement is a company’s revenues, expenses, and the difference between the two. The difference is called net income.
It is important to note that revenues and profits are not the same as cash. Revenues include amounts earned which may or may not have been collected from customers yet. There could be amounts that customers had paid at an earlier time but have just been earned. There could be estimates and assumptions included as well.
Expenses are not necessarily amounts that have been paid. They include expenses that have been incurred but may be paid later. There may also be amounts that were paid in an earlier time-period but are now being recognized due to the matching of revenues and expenses. Estimates and assumptions are also present in expenses.
Net income is sometimes called the bottom line. It is revenues minus expenses. If expenses are more than revenues, it is called net loss. There may be important subtotals presented in the income statement such as gross profit. This subtotal is sometimes called the line. Gross profit is net sales minus cost of goods sold. Cost of goods sold are costs or expenses directly related to sales such as direct labor, direct materials and overhead.
Each statement will have a heading. It includes the company name, statement name and the time-period covered. An income statement covers a span of time. It is usually a company’s fiscal year but can be for shorter periods such as a month or quarter (three months).

The report " Why the Rich are Getting Rich and the Poor, Poorer opens the eyes of the audience by making them understand the unemployment that people are suffering from is because of lack of technology and education. The author gives an introduction of three boats sailing within the economy of America. One of the boats carries the symbolist analysis; another one is the in-person servers, and the last one carries the routine producers. The author states that the Americans were once in the same boat when corporations could sell goods and services globally as this increased the purchasing power of the Americans (Berry, 13). In this part, the author introduces the reader on its main ideas of the essay and what will be covered in the essay.
Supporting arguments
Robert Reich supports his thesis by giving various explanations to help in the understanding of the reasons behind his arguments. First, the author talks about increasing rates of the sinking of the boats that belong to the routine producers from the time the Americans began to construct companies in the developing countries. When this happens, the employees are hired from these countries and are given the exact payments that the Americans could have earned. Meaning, the minority who depend on these industries for their survival continues to suffer and remain poor. However, the only people who benefit are the symbolic Analysts.
The second argument is that the in-person server’s and the routine producers have lost their jobs because they have been replaced with modern technology. According to Reich, as much as the in-person servers suffer, they are protected from the direct impacts of global competition as compared to the routine producers who are directly affected by the issue (Heyward 16). The author states that only the symbolic analysts have their jobs in the rise as their services are demanded across the globe because they have problem-solving skills. The report also brings a clear understanding of the reason why the poor are getting poorer especially be talking about the companies replacing human efforts with the robots which are believed to be more efficient.
Another argument is that the author explains that the in-person servants become even more miserable when the routine producers lose their jobs and begin board ships carrying the In-Person servants. According to the author, these people are exposed to more risks of unemployment and are threatened by the increased number of high school graduates, the high rates of immigration and the labour saving machinery (Berry, 5). He believes that the world has only created more opportunities for the symbolic analysts and they end up getting more money from selling their knowledge to those who want to make a fortune. - 1. Long term care. Nursing Home and Subacute Care During the nineteenth and the twentieth century, the term "nursing home" was synonymous with long-term care. Although today the exclusive use of the term "long-term care" is no longer accurate for nursing homes, it continues to remain and will not change easily. However, newer terms such as "nursing facilities" will help clarify the role of specific long-term care organizations and will differentiate them from others in the health care industry. Subacute care is a relatively new but rapidly growing medical service in the continuum of care. Today, it is considered the fastest growing segment of the health care delivery system. Research the online references such as EBSCOhost, SocINDEX, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), or PubMed for information on nursing facilities and subacute units and respond to the following questions: Do you agree with the change in the terminology of nursing homes to nursing facilities? Why or why not? How do the terms relate with each other? What impact does the historical perspective of the nursing home have on the stigma related to the quality of care? How were nursing facilities developed? What have been the consequences of the change in terminology? Do you think the change in terminology will impact the quality of care in the future? If yes, how? If no, why? What changes do you see nursing homes making in the future in order to keep up with the ever changing needs of the demographics of seniors?
- 2. What are subacute units? How did subacute care emerge? What are the strengths and limitations of the emergence of subacute care in long-term care as related to issues in levels of patients' acuity (various levels of nursing care based on the needs of patients)? Support your answer with relevant examples. What is the impact of subacute care on the cost and quality of care? Do you think subacute care needs to be an integral component of hospitals, or should it be an integral part of the long-term care system? Provide a rationale for your answer. Based on your learning about nursing home care and subacute care, compare their funding, staffing, regulation, and marketing Assignment 2. Long-Term Care Facilities: Services, Successes, and Failures Many services are available to help seniors stay in their homes. These services are increasing in popularity as more seniors are choosing community care over institutionalized care. Two main services that assist seniors in this area are adult day care and home health care. Find out an adult day care and a home health care in your vicinity or using the Internet and create a 1- to 2-page report summarizing their services offered, successes, and failures. Based on the knowledge gained from your research, respond to the following questions: Adult day care programs began more like a social model; however, over time, they have developed as a medical model.
- 3. Do you agree or disagree? Why? Adult day care is being described as gap filler between institutional and noninstitutional care? Do you agree or disagree? Why? What population comprises the largest group receiving care in adult day care programs? Why? Do you think receiving patients with more medical problems has impacted adult day care services? Why? How has this effected staffing? Which success factor has had the greatest impact on the cost- effectiveness of health care services? How? What impact has home health care had on the quality of life for consumers? Provide examples to support your answer. Is there a time when home health care and adult day care is no longer appropriate for a senior? What criteria are used to establish this? Human resource Assignment 1. An accounting firm has just contacted your consulting business for assistance. They want to hire someone to do accounting and payroll. The bookstore is downstairs, while the office is upstairs in an older building. The essential functions of the job include operating a computer, maintaining a ledger, providing the owner with financial statements, completing tax returns, paying bills and employees, and balancing the bank statements. The desk for this is at the top of a flight of 24 steps. There is no elevator, and the building is too old to be ADA compliant. The firm is struggling financially, but hopes to increase sales as a new coffee shop just opened next door. The most qualified applicant to their advertisement has just come into the bookstore in a wheelchair.
- 4. Summarize your consulting recommendations to the accounting firm. Be sure to discuss whether this candidate is capable of performing the essential functions of this job from a wheelchair. Analyze the issue of reasonable accommodation. What does the law say? Could the employer make a reasonable accommodation here to hire the best candidate for this job? How could they do that considering their tight finances? Find a court case on ADA that has reached a verdict, how did the court case interpret the law as written? How might that outcome provide any insight or application to the discussion scenario or to reasonable accommodation, in general? Human Resource Assignment 2. As the Chief Human Resource Officer of Community State University, you have just been contacted by your legal team. They informed you that your organization has been selected to undergo a Federal I-9 audit. You decided to do a spot check on 5 random departments and noticed that numerous I-9’s were filled out incorrectly. You only have one month before the auditors arrive to do an entire I-9 audit on over 100 departments and the president of the university expects a strategic update on how to tackle this issue in 2 days. For the first part of your post, describe the immigration forms and documents needed to apply for a job. Research and review an I-9 Form and describe the documents that you would produce to establish legal U.S. status. For the second part
- 5. of your post, recommend a plan of action to correct the deficient forms described in the scenario above. In your discussion, analyze whether the I-9 Form and other documents are enough to establish legal status in the U.S. and are adequate protection for employers. For the third part of your post, justify one additional safeguard that could be added to protect the employer from unknowingly hiring an illegal immigrant.
