The London 2012 Olympic Games will be held in a 500-acre site in East London that is currently run-down but will be transformed into a compact and secure venue only seven minutes from central London. Funding for the £1.5 billion project will come from the national lottery, a local development agency, council taxes, and revenue from tickets, sponsorships, and broadcast rights with Londoners paying an extra £20 per year in taxes for 10 years.
