K-12 Standards:
● W.3.10. Write routinely over extended time frames (time for research, reflection,
and revision) and shorter time frames (a single sitting or a day or two) for a range of
discipline-specific tasks, purposes, and audiences.
Learning Objectives:
● Students will learn about The Well, a public nonprofit focused on mentoring and
vocational training of youth and young adults.
● Students will learn what a logo is and how it is used in businesses
● Students will learn how to create a logo that is designed specified for a business
Materials:
● Paper shape cut outs
● Colored pencils
● Various samples of logos = cut out for small groups to investigate
Vocabulary Covered in Lesson:
● Design: an arrangement of lines or shapes created to form a pattern or decoration
● Business: a person’s regular occupation, profession, or trade
● Creativity: the use of the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production
of an artistic work
● Symbol: a thing that represents or stands for something else, especially a material
object representing something abstract
● Symbolism: the use of symbols to represent ideas or qualities
● Connections: a relationship in which a person, things, or idea is linked or associated
with something else
● Consistency: the achievement of a level of performance that does not vary in
quality over time
● Brand: a type of product manufactured by a particular company under a particular
name
● Marketing: the activity of business of prompting and selling products or services,
including market research and advertising
Considerations for Learner Variability:
- A written handout of the assignment/ instructions
- Extra help from teachers assistant/coach for additional support

5 min Intro:
● Adult instructor(s) will introduce
the “Learning Objectives” and
agenda.
● Adult instructor will introduce
The Well.
● Students are expected to follow
along, noting any questions they
might have about The Well and
the different amenities and
spaces they provide.
10 min Hook:
● Lesson vocabulary has been
pre-written on a slide that can be
shown at the beginning of the
lesson, or potentially
pre-assigned.
● Students are expected to write
down key academic vocabulary,
and respond to questions either
in written or oral formats.
During the Lesson
10 min Content Delivery:
● Adult instructor(s) will explain the
plan for what the students are
doing and what is to be expected
● Go over each step of creating a
logo
● Prompt
● Students are expected to take
active notes (in the style
dictated by the educator) and
ask questions, when necessary.
● Students are expected to write
down key academic steps for
creating a logo for their
business
5 min Brainstorm:
● The students will create an idea
for a design to present to the
adult instructor(s).
● The design should be connected
to their business/ business idea.
● Students will take the 5 min to
brainstorm an idea and example
of what their logo will look like
● Student will present to adult
instructor(s) for approval
● Students can ask questions if
they are confused or don’t know
where to start
25 min Engagement:
● The students will create a design
that is in line with their
● Students will take 25 minutes to
create their design for the logo
for the business they have
business/business idea
*This project can also be done in pairs or
groups
created
● Students will create their logo
with the help of adult
instructor(s).
Closing the Lesson:
10 min Sharing and Discussion:
● The student will share to the
whole group what their logo is
and how it is a representation of
their businesses
● The students will write two
positives and one negative for
each logo design including their
own
● Students will be asked to share
how they created their design
and why they chose their
specific design
● Students will then write two
positives and one negative as a
way to support and create
healthy ways of critiquing the
logo for feedback from their
peers
5 min Revision:
● The student will take the two
positive and one negative into
account and will see if they would
like to make any revisions to their
logo if they conclude that they
must.
● Students will revise their logo if
they believe that they should
5 min Reflection:
● Students will write a reflection
about how they believed creating
the logo and working in pairs
and/or groups went
● Students will reflect on how
they believed it went and will
write about their favorite and
least favorite part
● Students will write about if they
had to change one thing, what
would it be and why
The Well One-Pager
About:
The Well was created by Restore Stockton, a public benefit nonprofit that focuses on mentoring and
vocational training of youth and young adults. Over the years Restore has successfully mentored and
trained individuals in various environments, including a screen printing shop, construction company,
coffee roastery, community gardens, schools and local community centers. Through the years we
began to dream about a space that could house everything. Thus The Well was born. Our heart is to
inspire connection, collaboration, and creativity. The Well is a place for Stocktonians to put their
creativity on display. We have always believed in giving everyone opportunities to experience the
things that are often only available to the privileged of society. We have gone to great lengths to
make these resources available to everyone. The Well is just another step in the direction of putting
these resources and opportunities at the fingertips of those who dream. We so deeply believe in
collaboration that we have invited other organizations to join us in this venture. The Well is a place
where many groups have come together with a common goal of empowering and equipping the
people of our city to explore creativity in ways they never could alone. We believe that deep and
meaningful relationships are key to success in every area of life. Come on down and get to know us.

Write routinely over extended time frames (time for research, reflection, and revision) and shorter time frames (a single sitting or a day or two) for a range of discipline-specific tasks, purposes, and audiences. Learning Objectives: ● Students will learn about The Well, a public nonprofit focused on mentoring and vocational training of youth and young adults. ● Students will learn what a logo is and how it is used in businesses ● Students will learn how to create a logo that is designed specified for a business Materials: ● Paper shape cut outs ● Colored pencils ● Various samples of logos = cut out for small groups to investigate Vocabulary Covered in Lesson: ● Design: an arrangement of lines or shapes created to form a pattern or decoration ● Business: a person’s regular occupation, profession, or trade ● Creativity: the use of the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of an artistic work ● Symbol: a thing that represents or stands for something else, especially a material object representing something abstract ● Symbolism: the use of symbols to represent ideas or qualities ● Connections: a relationship in which a person, things, or idea is linked or associated with something else ● Consistency: the achievement of a level of performance that does not vary in quality over time ● Brand: a type of product manufactured by a particular company under a particular name ● Marketing: the activity of business of prompting and selling products or services, including market research and advertising Considerations for Learner Variability: - A written handout of the assignment/ instructions - Extra help from teachers assistant/coach for additional support

Total Time: 60 minutes Beginning of the Lesson Time Teacher Actions and Pre-planned Questions Student Actions/Learning Activities 5 min Intro: ● Adult instructor(s) will introduce the “Learning Objectives” and agenda. ● Adult instructor will introduce The Well. ● Students are expected to follow along, noting any questions they might have about The Well and the different amenities and spaces they provide. 10 min Hook: ● Lesson vocabulary has been pre-written on a slide that can be shown at the beginning of the lesson, or potentially pre-assigned. ● Students are expected to write down key academic vocabulary, and respond to questions either in written or oral formats. During the Lesson 10 min Content Delivery: ● Adult instructor(s) will explain the plan for what the students are doing and what is to be expected ● Go over each step of creating a logo ● Prompt ● Students are expected to take active notes (in the style dictated by the educator) and ask questions, when necessary. ● Students are expected to write down key academic steps for creating a logo for their business 5 min Brainstorm: ● The students will create an idea for a design to present to the adult instructor(s). ● The design should be connected to their business/ business idea. ● Students will take the 5 min to brainstorm an idea and example of what their logo will look like ● Student will present to adult instructor(s) for approval ● Students can ask questions if they are confused or don’t know where to start 25 min Engagement: ● The students will create a design that is in line with their ● Students will take 25 minutes to create their design for the logo for the business they have
  • 3. business/business idea *This project can also be done in pairs or groups created ● Students will create their logo with the help of adult instructor(s). Closing the Lesson: 10 min Sharing and Discussion: ● The student will share to the whole group what their logo is and how it is a representation of their businesses ● The students will write two positives and one negative for each logo design including their own ● Students will be asked to share how they created their design and why they chose their specific design ● Students will then write two positives and one negative as a way to support and create healthy ways of critiquing the logo for feedback from their peers 5 min Revision: ● The student will take the two positive and one negative into account and will see if they would like to make any revisions to their logo if they conclude that they must. ● Students will revise their logo if they believe that they should 5 min Reflection: ● Students will write a reflection about how they believed creating the logo and working in pairs and/or groups went ● Students will reflect on how they believed it went and will write about their favorite and least favorite part ● Students will write about if they had to change one thing, what would it be and why The Well One-Pager
  • 4. About: The Well was created by Restore Stockton, a public benefit nonprofit that focuses on mentoring and vocational training of youth and young adults. Over the years Restore has successfully mentored and trained individuals in various environments, including a screen printing shop, construction company, coffee roastery, community gardens, schools and local community centers. Through the years we began to dream about a space that could house everything. Thus The Well was born. Our heart is to inspire connection, collaboration, and creativity. The Well is a place for Stocktonians to put their creativity on display. We have always believed in giving everyone opportunities to experience the things that are often only available to the privileged of society. We have gone to great lengths to make these resources available to everyone. The Well is just another step in the direction of putting these resources and opportunities at the fingertips of those who dream. We so deeply believe in collaboration that we have invited other organizations to join us in this venture. The Well is a place where many groups have come together with a common goal of empowering and equipping the people of our city to explore creativity in ways they never could alone.
