Logistics Case Study
Who Was the Client?
The client was a small German startup that provides pet
cremation services. However, it does not cremate animals
themselves. They work with crematories that fulfill the
orders. Their work is to provide a convenient customer
experience via an online platform at each service step.
3
Logistics Case Study
What Was Their Challenge?
The client spent too much time forwarding the orders to
the crematorium, and there was a risk that some orders
were not passed.
CUSTOMER NEED
If the order was not accepted by the crematorium it had
to be forwarded to another place manually. Employees
didn’t always remember that.
Since the orders were passed manually and the
crematorium had to accept them by replying to
the email, the order completion took too long.
Once the crematorium accepted an order there was
no further status update on what was happening to the
order. By the same means, the client was not informed
about order progression.
There were of course more of them
The main challenge was that whenever they received an order from a client they had to pass it to the crematorium via email
and further coordinate it via email and phone. It brought many problems and limitations. For example:

Logistics Case Study
How Did We Resolve Their Challenge?
Arm crematorium employees with a mobile app so that
they receive, accept, and update orders on the go as
well as arrange order pick-ups and returns (they were
field service workers who were not sitting in front of a
desktop)
SOLUTIONS
Give the client an admin web app in which he can
monitor and manage all orders as well as see all metrics.
Push the order to the app automatically whenever a new
order comes and assign it to the right crematorium. If
the crematorium does not accept it within 15 minutes
reroute to another venue.
Send update emails to customers whenever their order
changes status and give them access customer portal.
When you look at the challenges once again you will see that they can be grouped into two main categories - 1. passing orders to
crematories 2. getting updates from crematories. We came up with the following solution proposal:

How Did We Go About the Project?
OUR START
In a nutshell, our actual project plan looked like this:
Our client was well prepared. It came with mock-ups that showed the product interface. There were many cool features.
However, after going through all the details and corner cases that were not included in the exemplary mockups we
concluded that implementing all of them will take long months. Next, we suggested phasing the project into the main
MVP phase, and the next phases that will be scoped after the MVP is adopted by the users.
The MVP took approx. 520 hours in total
