The first location that I have decided to
use is my garden. In this scene we meet
all four characters and find out a little bit
about their interest and personalities
whilst they give a stepping stone for the
whole short film.
The reason why I picked garden is
because it is very open space and
especially at night, that empty space is
surrounded by darkness, making
characters feel very isolated and viewers
feel intense or uncomfortable because
you don’t know what might be hiding in
the darkness or even who might be
listening or watching. Also, it straight
away adds unsafeness and
mysteriousness to the mood, which is a
way of getting the viewers attention and drawing them into the storyline.
The props that I will use in this scene are fire, marshmallows and beanbags. The reason why there
are only few props, almost giving characters nothing but words to carry out the message in this
scene, is in order to make them appear hopeless in that empty space in viewers eyes and to give
them no way out from that bubble of light in the middle of nowhere, which only adds to the
intensity. It also makes it more interesting because viewers will start wondering how would they
survive if something happen to them as they have no source of connection or help around them,
which keeps the audience watching. In terms of camera, I would place it only in two different places,
which is exactly where the phone camera is placed in the picture and by the centre of the fire for
mid shots. In terms of lighting, I would only use dedo with orange gel to exaggerate the fire and to
show it on character faces and LED with red gel to mix it with orange to exaggerate the fire and give
softer edges for the characters that sit at the side of the fire, where the fire is not as harsh. Both
lights were standing on the right side of the camera to not create double shadows. Lastly, in order to
use the dedo, we need to use extension as there are no plugs around.

The second location that I am going to use in my
house is my bedroom. In the scenes that were
made in my house, we meet the character, that is
the victim in the whole story and we see her
journey to either survival or death whilst also
starting to see the relationship between scenes
that happened outside.
The reason why I’ve picked my house, is there are
many corners and places that character may
know but viewer may not, which adds intensity
for the audience. Also, at night, you don’t know
what might be hiding behind those doors and at
night each corner or room atmosphere changes
and becomes less known, which puts both
character and viewer in an unknown state.
The props that I would use in this scene would be
only candle. This would act us not only as a source
of lighting but also the only source of life that she
is holding in her hands and it tell the viewer that if
the candle light is going to be gone, it will also
take her life away. Therefore, it keeps the
audience watching and interested as well as gives
intensity because we feel scared for the character
and we start to feel for the character. In terms of
camera, in the bedroom, I would place it looking
straight into characters eyes and lighting on the
left side of the camera, which is dedo with
orange gel in order to exaggerate the candle
light on the characters face in this case scenario.
In the second room (second picture), I would
place the camera just by the last doors on the
right in the centre of the 180 degree line and
with the same lighting as it was used in the
bedroom but just on the right side of the
camera. This is also because the room was very
small and we would only be able to place the
light on one side. Lastly, in the last room, I
would place the camera in the corner left side
and the lighting on the left side of the camera.
As the dedo require a plug, it is quite
challenging to move it around the space and
place it exactly where you need it without
seeing it in the camera.
