south, with Lambayeque; to the west, with the Pacific Ocean. Politically it is divided into 8
provinces and 64 districts, its capital being the city of Piura.

3. GEOGRAPHICAL FEATURES:
Peru is a megadiverse country, it has 11 ecoregions. It has an enormous multiplicity of
landscapes due to its geographical conditions, which in turn gives it a great diversity of
natural resources. Three large regions can be identified in its territory, which has been the
traditional way of dividing it according to its altitudes: Coast, Sierra and Jungle.
Coast:
A narrow strip of deserts and fertile valleys bathed by the Pacific Ocean characterize the
Peruvian coast. The fertile valleys arise from the rivers that flow down from the Andes
Mountains, the geographical division with the mountains, and are lost in the sea.
The coast has a warm temperate climate, without extreme cold or suffocating heat, but with
high humidity, dense fogs that produce an intense sensation of cold in winter. In summer,
there is very little fog and the temperature reaches 30 ° C. In its northern part, the coast has
warm temperatures almost all year round, with a short period of rain between November
and December.
Sierra:
It is the mountainous region of Peru, the Andes Mountains dominate its landscape and it also
has several ecoregions at different levels of altitude. The northern Andes are lower and
wetter than average, the central Andes are the highest and steepest, and this is where the
highest peak in the country, the snowy Huascarán, is located, at 6,768 masl. The southern
Andes are thicker, it is also known as the altiplano.
The sierra has two seasons: summer (April to October) with sunny days, cold nights and little
rain, the ideal time to visit it; and winter (November to March) with abundant rains. During
the day, the sun can heat up to 24 ° C and at night the temperature can drop to -3 ° C.

4. Jungle:
Located to the east, it is a vast flat region covered by vegetation in the Amazon river basin,
which arises from the union of the Marañón and Ucayali rivers. It is the largest region in the
territory of Peru. It is formed by the high jungle or mountain eyebrow (above 700 masl) which
is characterized by its cloud forests and the low jungle (below 700 masl). humidity is very
