Peru is located on the western coast of South America, bordered by Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia and Chile. It has three main geographic regions - the coast, the Andes mountains and the Amazon jungle. The Andes greatly affect settlement patterns and climate varies throughout the year due to the Humboldt ocean current. Peru's capital and largest city is Lima, located on the coast at 12°03'S 77°03'W. Peru has a democratic government and a free market economy focused on agriculture, fishing and mining. Popular tourist destinations include the ancient Inca city of Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca.
