Running AWS services locally during development can improve developer productivity and reduce the risk of issues once code is deployed to remote environments. In this talk at the February 2018 AWS Leeds User Group, I outlined how we have started to achieve this.
While many organizations have started to automate their software development processes, many still engineer their infrastructure largely by hand. Treating your infrastructure just like any other piece of code creates a “programmable infrastructure” that allows you to take full advantage of the scalability and reliability of the AWS cloud. This session will walk through practical examples of how AWS customers have merged infrastructure configuration with application code to create application-specific infrastructure and a truly unified development lifecycle. You will learn how AWS customers have leveraged tools like CloudFormation, orchestration engines, and source control systems to enable their applications to take full advantage of the scalability and reliability of the AWS cloud, create self-reliant applications, and easily recover when things go seriously wrong with their infrastructure.
Modernizing applications with Amazon EKS - MAD304 - Santa Clara AWS Summit.pdfAmazon Web Services
In this session, learn how to easily containerize and migrate existing applications to Amazon Elastic Container Service for Kubernetes (Amazon EKS) without needing to refactor your code or tooling. Amazon EKS makes it easy to deploy, manage, and scale containerized applications using Kubernetes on AWS.
Dive deep into some of the key innovations behind Amazon Aurora, discuss best practices and configurations, and share early customer experience from the field.

[DockerCon 2023] Reproducible builds with BuildKit for software supply chain ...Akihiro Suda
Images maintained by a reputable organization or an individual are often considered to be trustworthy; however, it is hard to deny the possibility that they might have silently injected malicious codes that are not present in the source repo. Also, even if they have no malicious intent, their images can still be compromised on an accidental leakage of registry credentials.
The latest release of BuildKit solves this supply chain security concern with reproducible builds. Reproducible builds is a technique to ensure that a bit-for-bit identical image can be reproduced from its source code, by anybody, at any time. When multiple actors can attest to an image's reproducibility, it signifies that the image contains no code of a secret origin.
Audiences of this talk will learn how they can and how sometimes they cannot make their images reproducible to improve their trust.

SquareScale - Introduction to a new generation of Cloud Native Infrastructure...QAware GmbH
Cloud Native Night, July 2018, Munich, Talk by Stephane Jourdan (@sjourdan, SquareScale)
Join our Meetup: www.meetup.com/cloud-native-muc
Abstract:
With nearly 70% of organizations either using or investigating microservices, Cloud Native design structures are becoming a major trend now. Still, this evolution also has its downsides, bringing a lot of complexity for smaller teams as microservice-based apps are naturally more complicated to manage than traditional “monoliths”.
For smaller teams, successfully managing complexity is critical. Each team member needs to understand more of the whole system than a larger team and microservices can exacerbate the problem.
SquareScale develops an new generation of automated containers scheduling platform (PaaS) that enables DevOps to set up and deploy a cloud-based, fully configured IT infrastructure even without expert skills in system administration - in just a couple of clicks, and within minutes.

Test cloud application deployments locally and in CI without staging environm...Thomas Rausch
In this talk we explore the challenges of testing cloud applications, and what strategies there are to overcome the challenges. I present LocalStack, a tool for testing serverless cloud applications locally and in CI.
In this session, we will take a deep-dive into the DevOps process that comes with Azure Machine Learning service, a cloud service that you can use to track as you build, train, deploy and manage models. We zoom into how the data science process can be made traceable and deploy the model with Azure DevOps to a Kubernetes cluster.
At the end of this session, you will have a good grasp of the technological building blocks of Azure machine learning services and can bring a machine learning project safely into production.
When it comes to microservice architecture, sometimes all you wanted is to perform cross cutting concerns ( logging, authentication , caching, CORS, Routing, load balancing , exception handling , tracing, resiliency etc..) and also there might be a scenario where you wanted to perform certain manipulations on your request payload before hitting into your actual handler. And this should not be a repetitive code in each of the services , so all you might need is a single place to orchestrate all these concerns and that is where Middleware comes into the picture. In the demo I will be covering how to orchestrate these cross cutting concerns by using Azure functions as a Serverless model.
In this talk, we will start with some introduction to Azure Functions, its triggers and bindings. Later we will build a serverless solution to solve a problem statement by using different triggers and bindings of Azure Functions.
Language to be used: C# and IDE - Visual Studio 2019 Community Edition"
In this workshop, you will understand how Azure DevOps Services helps you scale DevOps adoption strategies in enterprise. We will explore various feature and services that can enable you to implement various DevOps practices starting from planning, version control, CI & CD , Dependency Management and Test planning.
In this session, we will understand how to create your first pipeline and build an environment to restore dependencies and how to run tests in Azure DevOps followed by building an image and pushing it to container registry.
In this session, we will discuss a use case where we need to quickly develop web and mobile front end applications which are using several different frameworks, hosting options, and complex integrations between systems under the hood. Let’s see how we can leverage serverless technologies (Azure Functions and logic apps) and Low Code/No code platform to achieve the goal. During the session we will go though the code followed by a demonstration.

Providing Globus Services to Users of JASMIN for Environmental Data AnalysisGlobus
JASMIN is the UK’s high-performance data analysis platform for environmental science, operated by STFC on behalf of the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). In addition to its role in hosting the CEDA Archive (NERC’s long-term repository for climate, atmospheric science & Earth observation data in the UK), JASMIN provides a collaborative platform to a community of around 2,000 scientists in the UK and beyond, providing nearly 400 environmental science projects with working space, compute resources and tools to facilitate their work. High-performance data transfer into and out of JASMIN has always been a key feature, with many scientists bringing model outputs from supercomputers elsewhere in the UK, to analyse against observational or other model data in the CEDA Archive. A growing number of JASMIN users are now realising the benefits of using the Globus service to provide reliable and efficient data movement and other tasks in this and other contexts. Further use cases involve long-distance (intercontinental) transfers to and from JASMIN, and collecting results from a mobile atmospheric radar system, pushing data to JASMIN via a lightweight Globus deployment. We provide details of how Globus fits into our current infrastructure, our experience of the recent migration to GCSv5.4, and of our interest in developing use of the wider ecosystem of Globus services for the benefit of our user community.

In software engineering, the right architecture is essential for robust, scalable platforms. Wix has undergone a pivotal shift from event sourcing to a CRUD-based model for its microservices. This talk will chart the course of this pivotal journey.
Event sourcing, which records state changes as immutable events, provided robust auditing and "time travel" debugging for Wix Stores' microservices. Despite its benefits, the complexity it introduced in state management slowed development. Wix responded by adopting a simpler, unified CRUD model. This talk will explore the challenges of event sourcing and the advantages of Wix's new "CRUD on steroids" approach, which streamlines API integration and domain event management while preserving data integrity and system resilience.
Participants will gain valuable insights into Wix's strategies for ensuring atomicity in database updates and event production, as well as caching, materialization, and performance optimization techniques within a distributed system.
Join us to discover how Wix has mastered the art of balancing simplicity and extensibility, and learn how the re-adoption of the modest CRUD has turbocharged their development velocity, resilience, and scalability in a high-growth environment.
