This document discusses the history of major music festivals in the UK from the late 1960s to the present. It notes several iconic early festivals such as the Isle of Wight Festival and Glastonbury Festival. It then discusses the growth of Glastonbury Festival from a small event to one that sells out in just a few hours and attracts over 100,000 people annually. The document also outlines some of the impacts, both positive and negative, that large music festivals can have on communities, the environment, employment, and culture.

Diversity is visible only in space, and this space is in the Self, which in turn projects it at the moment when differentiation starts although it is not then clear. Rama! Look within.
|
• What you perceive as space within is the expanse wherein all creatures exist, and it forms their ‘Self’ or consciousness.
• What they look upon as space is your ‘Self’.
• Thus, the ‘Self’ in one is space in another, and vice versa.
• The same thing cannot differ in its nature.
• Therefore there is no difference between space and ‘Self’ - which is full and perfect Bliss-Consciousness.
The strongest fetter is the certainty that one is bound. It is as false as the fearful hallucinations of a frightened child. Even the best of men cannot find release by any amount of efforts unless his sense of bondage is destroyed.

Music has a great potential for positive country branding, still not exploited enough.
Music branding as such offers a strategic way to reach audiences in ways that traditional communication can’t.
Music provides the spark for people to socialise, energise and organise.
Music is ranked as more difficult to live without in peoples’ everyday lives than sports, movies and newspapers. Music also beats TV, radio, arts and literature. Only Internet and mobile phones are ranked higher.
Digitalization has completely changed how music is composed, transmitted, preserved, heard, and performed. The overwhelming majority of music today is digital music since they exist in electronic form. Digital music along with other digital content is the driver for the global technology markets. As technology advances, so do the means for marketing and promoting of anything and everything. The music industry is no exception. It is now apparent that the digital production, distribution, and consumption of music is inevitable. However, while the digital music market is booming, it has been observed that there is no sustainable future for the music artists or for technology companies. The pressure consumers have placed on the music industry is enormous. This paper provides an introduction on digital music. Matthew N. O. Sadiku | Uwakwe C. Chukwu | Abayomi Ajayi-Majebi | Sarhan M. Firstly we will start on the ¶ history of music events.Music events date back many years some of the key events are the ¶ 1969 bath blues festival, ¶ Hyde Park and ¶ reading festivals, we will focus on the ¶ Pilton (Glastonbury), ¶ Isle of Wight, ¶ Stonehenge festivals as well as ¶ T in the park. We will give a few facts and would like YOU to tell us out of the 4 which festival we are talking about.
In the 1970’s ¶ Michael Eavis¶ established this festival.¶ 1,500 people attended and tickets were being sold for £1¶in the 1980s the festival had become an annual fixture. 1990 saw the biggest festival yet¶ The festival was first televised by Channel 4 in 1992¶1995 saw the attendance rise drastically due to the security fence being breached this aside, proved to be a highly successful year with memorable performances from¶ Oasis, Pulp, Jamiroquai and The Cure.¶¶1995 also saw an estimated 250,000 people attend the festival (only 100,000 tickets were sold) due to gate crashers. ¶ The tickets ¶ were sold out within 4 hours of going on sale in 2010. ¶
This Festival began in 1968, ¶ founded by Foulk brothers ¶ and was known as ¶ ‘The great south coast bank holiday pop festivity’.In 1970 ¶ it was known as the ‘largest human gathering in the world’ with¶ 600,000 people and over 50 performers such as The Who and Jimmy Hendrix. ¶In 2002 the festival was reformed in ¶Newport and has been annual ever since then. ¶The festival was ¶ sponsored by Nokia until 2004 and is now promoted by Solo¶Numbers grow each year with¶ 65,000 people in 2011. There have been performers of recent years including ¶ The Script, Calvin Harris, Pixie Lott and Amy Winehouse.¶
This British free festival was held in ¶ Salisbury between 1972 and 1984. ¶It has been characterised by celebrating the alternative cultures and the paganism. ¶It emerged as an outcome of the suppression of the ¶ Windsor Free festival. ¶This event gained major popularity in the 80s and ¶it attracted around 6500.¶It was considered the¶ best free festival worldwide in 1981 and¶ people who attended to this festival were considered hippies. ¶Bands¶ like Thompson Twins, Hawkind took a from touring¶ to perform at Stonehenge for no fee. ¶¶
This festival started at ¶ Strathclyde Country Park, ¶with 17,000 music fans attending in 1994¶Moved to the environment of Balado in 1997¶Ithas grown to a capacity of now 85,000¶It became one of the most ¶ important and critically acclaimed music events¶ on the international festival circuit and has been awarded ¶Lifetime Achievement Awards at the UK Festival Awards¶2012 is it 18th year¶200 artists perform across 11 stages over 3 days¶and has ¶sold out every year since 1996No other festival has seen such a substantial and continued growth and Balado has become the 5th largest town in Scotland¶
Now moving onto a pestle analysis of the live music industry,¶Political:¶Some of the political factors affecting the industry include ¶tax increase within the government which also affects the economical budget¶Environmental responsibilities that should be taken up by government¶Government influencing youth within the music environment through behaviour and attitude ¶Music has a strong impact within the political movement such as the hippie movement. ¶Economical:¶Economical factors that affect the industry include the effects of ¶ the recession such as spending budget, however with successful development and a successful launch this can create more jobs¶¶Unlike London where the majority of people use an Oyster card outer areas still use ticket buying or cash within busses which may prove to be expensive for some users.¶ In 2011 an article was written titled “Live music events contribute 1bn to the UK Economy”*Talk about graphs*
¶Social:¶Some Social factors which effect the industry are ¶The many health and safety regulations which must be taken into account by parties involved¶Social and cultural tradition is commonly defined through music such as free speech¶Whenever everyone comes together social status is forgotten and everyone shares an equal status ¶Due to these events social status is forgotten since music bonds the only thing that separates is age¶Technological:¶Advancements in technology have dramatically changed the music industry both in the studio and live events. Since the development of the internet, ¶ peer to peer downloads have increased and illegal¶ downloads have increaseddue to this musicians and record labels have lost millions of pounds in recordsales. Live events however have and can help an artist to earn their money. Unlike downloads which cant be supervised the buying of tickets to live events can be looked over and money is sure to be made through the purchase of tickets. An advantage to the development of the internet is promoting and advertising ¶live music events. advertisements can be placed on certain sites to help promote events. Furthermore the purchasing of tickets is also a lot more easier than just buying at the box office with the use of sites such as Ticketmaster¶, HMV and Ticket web. Technological advancements can also be seen when to setting up live performances, the music industry has moved dramatically from 4 track recorders to mixer desks that offer between 42-58 channels. ¶More instruments can be added without the loss of sound quality due to compression, ¶which is essential when people have paid good money for a good show
Live events will always have impacts both positive and negative ones¶Some social and cultural positive impacts concerts may have are¶¶Expanding cultural horizons¶Introducing new and challenging ideas ¶As well as allowing people from different backgrounds to connect¶However this can also influence bad behaviour ¶Social dislocation within communities ¶And community alienation Some positive ¶physical and environmental positive impacts it may have are ¶¶Transforming urban areas ¶Showcasing and raising awareness of the environment¶Improve transport and communities¶However it can also cause environmental damage¶Noise disturbance to locals¶And traffic congestion if not planned well
¶Some positive political impacts it may have are ¶¶Heightening the UK prestige ¶Legitimises political ideologies¶And build nationalism ¶However this can cause misallocation of public finds, tax payers money falling into wrong hands¶May distract the public and politicians about serious issues which need to be dealt with¶And damage politician images ¶Some economic positive impacts¶ could be to¶ increase tour visits which in turn creates ¶new businesses and more ¶jobs pumping more money into the economy¶Some negatives this may cause is community resistance to tourists, prices of products may inflate and losses can be made financially to many parties.
Companies who play roles when creating or helping develop and launch events need to have ethics and guidelines, Ethics are described by Stanwick and Stanwick through “The values an individual uses to interpret whether any particular action or behaviour is acceptable and appropriate”…however some ethics are never met for example¶Ticket scams, this video explains everything you need to know about ticket scams¶¶Environmental factors can also play a large part in ethics¶, many people now are “greener” people and find that littering ¶ is an ethic that must be taken into consideration as well as Recycling¶Avoiding energy waste¶A report from the guardian from 2010 subtitled “The UK music industry is responsible for around 540,000 tonnes of greenhouse has emissions a year.” in the report it says “U2 were criticised last year (2009) for the carbon footprint of their world tour, which was estimated at the equivalent of a return flight to Mars.”¶In my opinion…However there are events such as the Lou Fest Festival which occurs every year to help promote environmental awareness
¶Corporate governance are a set of rules and guidelines which companies must follow to help build a reputation with its publics and stakeholders although corporate governance is majorly used in companies we mustn't forget that a concert or live event is still a business with an expenditure and income…¶A stakeholder is elected through company directorsWho are then have the responsibility or delegate the job of working on the¶ legal environment of the organisationAuditing ¶¶Structuring the management and other processes within the company¶Financial responsibilities¶And rights for control and copyrighting
¶Here we will describe the roles of 3 different major jobs within the events industry and we want YOU to work out which one the job is from either a Roadie, a Sound/Light Engineer and a Tour ManagerStarting with the first one this person or team are responsible for ¶Loading/Unloading¶Lifting & carrying equipment¶Setting up the stage ¶Assisting with sound and light equipment set ups¶Rigging electrical equipment¶Tuning and maintaining instruments¶Taking down the set after the show
This next person or team should be¶Experienced and qualified¶Key to any live performance¶Set up sound and lighting equipment¶Maintain sound and light during performances¶Good sound ear to apply best sound output to the audience¶Taking down the set after the showFinally this person ¶Manages band/act whilst on tour¶Organising transport for relevant persons¶Managing the budget of the tour¶Finding accommodation for band/artist¶Skilled organiser and negotiator¶Must be available 24 hours throughout tour
