1. Litte Peng-Wayne
“Hello Wayne, why so glum” said Todd, “why the long face”? Todd was a frog who never left home without his hat
and tie. “It’s nothing really Mr. Todd” sighed Wayne “it’s just, I really wish I could fly.” “Well I can see how that can be a
problem for you little one” and Mr. Todd hopped on his way. You see Wayne was a penguin and penguins can’t fly. Peng-
Wayne had been thinking of this for quite a while but said nothing to any of his friends. He lay on the grass and looked up all
morning at all the other birds soaring up to the clouds and beyond. “I wonder what it smells like up there.” He thought about
the smell of the air and he wondered if the clouds tasted like cotton candy, all morning long he wondered.
2. Finally it was time for his daily lunch visit with the Jelly bears, Boo and Lilly. “Good Day Wayne!” “Good Day Boo, Good
Day Lilly.” Wayne walked slowly towards the table and plumped himself down on a chair. “What’s the matter Wayne?” Lilly
asked, “Why the long face?” “It’s nothing really Lilly, it’s just I really wish I could fly” answered Wayne. “Well I see how that can
be a problem Wayne” “Tell me Wayne why do you want to fly?” asked Boo. “I want to know what the clouds taste like and what the
air up there smells like, don’t you ever wonder about that?” said Wayne. “That’s a pretty good question” said Boo. Now little
Peng-Wayne had everyone wondering what the clouds tasted like and what the air smelled like up there.
3. Back at the pond Mr. Todd and Ms. Dots were having lunch. “Dot, do you ever wonder what the clouds taste like and
what the air smells like up there”? asked Mr. Todd. “Well now that you mention it, that’s a very good question” answered
Ms. Dots. “Wayne seems to be bothered by these questions and I think we should help him”. “I agree but how”? They sat
there quietly trying to figure out how they were going to help their little friend fly.
After Boo, Lilly and Wayne were finished with lunch they sat quietly thinking of ways they could help Wayne fly.
Right then they saw Mr. Todd and Ms. Dots hopping up the path. “I’ve got it!” exclaimed Mr. Todd, “We’ll go visit the
cootie brothers Orville and Wilbur, I’m sure one of their crazy inventions can help little Peng-Wayne get up to the clouds”.
“That’s a fantastic idea” shouted everyone and off they went to visit the cooties.
4. Knock, knock, bang, bang! Were all the noises coming from the cootie Brothers’ workshop. “Good day Orville, Good day
Wilbur” called Boo. The loud noises stopped and they both came outside. “Why Good day everyone, is everything alright”? shouted
Wilbur. You see they were both a little hard of hearing because of all the loud banging always going on their workshop. “How can
we help you all today”? shouted Orville at the top of his lungs.
“Well you see,” Mr. Todd started to explain to the cooties that little Peng-Wayne wanted to fly because he was curious about
the air and the clouds. “In all honesty he has us all wondering about the smell and the taste now” Mr. Todd chuckled
“Well you’ve come to the right place, we actually got finished with our cloud tasting, air smelling flying machine just
yesterday so we can all go up and sort this out” Wilbur exclaimed excitedly, because they always loved sharing their inventions with
their friends. They all climbed carefully into the machine and buckled up and with a Clank! Boom! And a puff of smoke they were
off.
5. Wayne was so excited the only thing that came out his mouth was WEE WEEE WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! Mr. Todd Held on
to his hat and Ms. Dots held on to him. The Jelly bears’ faces were stuck in a WOW position and the cootie Brothers worked hard on
the levers and pedals, wings and pipes to keep the machine flying. “We’re almost there” shouted Orville, “get ready to taste the
clouds”.
Wayne got his little hand outside ready to catch a piece of cloud and everyone followed. They burst through the cloud as if it
wasn’t even there. Everyone had their hands and mouths open with anticipation. Peng- Wayne got lost in the experience, his tummy
was filled with a thousand butterflies and he even forgot it was the flying machine that took him to the clouds. After a few runs it was
time to land and with a heavy thud they were back on the ground.
6. “Is everyone alright”? shouted Wilbur. Everyone was too excited to even hear him. They were busy exchanging comments
about what they had just experienced. Just then they all remembered why they went up there in the first place so they turned to little
Peng-Wayne.
“Were you pleased Wayne? Was it as you expected”? asked Lilly. “No it wasn’t” answered Wayne and everyone held their
breath as he looked like he wasn’t finished with his sentence. “IT WAS BETTER THAN I IMAGINED!!!!!!!” That’s the loudest
anyone has ever heard little Wayne. He went on and on about the clouds tasting like air and that the air didn’t have a taste, about the
birds having to work so hard to stay up there while he could sit and enjoy the flight. Little Peng-Wayne went home and dreamt about
his flying adventure and the next day instead of lying on the grass and wondering what the clouds taste like and what the air smelled
like up there he went for a swim with his friend Mr. Todd.
