A New Paper
Many years ago a European dictator
scoffed at the troops of the British
Eighth Army by referring to them as
Desert Sats. The British troops took
on this name intended as an insult
willingly and in the same vein, the
view of the editor is that we
welcome the insults thrown at those
in the United Kingdom wanting their
freedom. Not so much has changed,
now we have power hungry
European leaders incandescent with
rage that we in Britain should want
freedom and so we become "Little
Englanders". Taking the "Little
Englandef name does not in any
way discount the rest of our
country's constituent parts, Wales,
Scotland and Northern lreland but
when people want to insult the
British public, they often tend to
dismiss us all as English
What format, what frequency the
new paper
The format will be simple, a one
page news commentary covering
various matters getting attention in
the UK or around the world or
otherwise worthy of mention.
Frequency, not decided, a weekly
news sheet, this remains to be
decided on.
Brexit
This has been a long time coming,
something close to 43 years. The
approach of the referendum was
awaited by the world, not just the
British electorate. Within the UK the
electorate was reminded that the 7th
June was the deadline to register to
vote and yet still this was permitted
to be extended. The Government
machinery deployed to scare the
people as did sections of the media,
academia and a number of
m ultinational corporations also
mobilised to intimidate the public to
get them to vote to remain in the
EU. After all this, the voting public
still decided to leave the
undemocratic EU by a majority of
over 1.3 million people. lt is
therefore confounding that there
should have been such indignant
protest and even indignity in the
clamour for another referendum.
The fleas of hypocrisy never have to
jump very far to find a new feasting
ground.
New British Prime Minister
The one commendable act in this
whole referendum saga by David
Cameron was to resign as Prime
Minister on 24th June. lt is however
very odd that the entire country
should be kept waiting for one
political party to choose a new
leader in a few months. The
Conservative Party is not as
important as the country and the
sooner the self-important politicians
realise this, the better. Leadership is
needed now, not when the
Conservative Party members wish to
gather in a few months.
Who will be the next PM?
There is a lot of media hype about
the Conservative Party new
leadership selection but with the
public vote being to leave the EU,
the new Prime Minister should be
from the Brexit camp. Any other
outcome would be selling short. This
means at the time of print there is
the choice of Andrea Leadsom,
MichaelGove or Liam Fox.
Out of the EU but in the Common
Market
Why would we want to stay in the
Common Market? The EU sells so
much to us that it would be foolish
for our new Prime Minister to want
to be in this farcical Common
Market with its freedom of
movement and ever intrusive
regulation. The voting Public voted
to leave and that is what should be
delivered. Out should mean out, the
First Edition
Europeans are unlikely to suddenly
stop selling to us.
What of Scotland now?
The Scottish First Minister is
struggling to get Scotland to remain
in the EU. The votes have been cast
and while Scotland has voted to
remain in the EU, but it is still in the
UK. This could change if there is
another Scottish referendum and if
the consensus of the Scottish People
is that they want this, then however
unfortunate for the UK, this could
happen. There is the paradox that
no Scottish politician wanting
Scottish independence can explain
that they want to leave the so called
dominance of London to be ruled by
Brussels? lt would make more sense
if Scotland wanted independence
from the UK and also the EU but this
is not what we are hearing.
Northern Ireland
We can only guess what will happen
here but these are fast changing
times.
The United Kingdom
This fine country could well break up
and we could have England and
Wales left or possibly even just
England. lf this does happen, it will
be a free England and not a puppet
state ofthe EU.
New Zealand
New Zealand has offered the UK
their expertise of their trade
negotiators and the Australians have
made similarly positive overtures on
wanting to trade with us. Yet again
these same and other
Commonwealth Nations have
stepped forward in Britain's hour of
need. We should be gratefulthat
they are prepared to overlook the
fact that we have not regarded the
Commonwealth with the value we
should have done over the last 43
years.
