Direct responsibility for over $140 million in personnel and contracts related to procurement, food service, logistics and
warehouse, property management, construction, technology, student enrollment and recruitment, security, compliance,
audit and investigations, and sustainability. This budget included the management of approximately 160 employees who
were organized in one of five major divisions.
Responsible for the development, oversight and management of an additional $592 million in school budgets which
supported teachers, custodians and aides, as well as non-personnel needs of schools such as textbooks, supplies, computers
and technology.
Major contracts accountability, including agreements totaling $18 million for school security with the Metropolitan Police
Department, $14 million for technology services with the Office of the Chief Technology Officer and $37 million in food
contracts that served over 9 million meals to students each school.
Responsible for ensuring that all school buildings opened on time with the staff, facilities and resources needed for all
principals to lead, for teachers to teach and for all students to learn beginning on the first day of school and every day
thereafter.
Oversaw business operations of the central office, including procurement, logistics, fixed costs, and property management.
Responsible for compliance and oversight of nearly 400 investigations for non-criminal matters, including allegations of
residency fraud.
Responsible for student enrollment, including student recruitment, enrollment projections, the common lottery (an
automated application system that allows interested families to apply to both traditional public and charter schools in lieu
of navigating separate enrollment processes), and the annual enrollment audit.
Leader of the Chancellor’s Response Team (formerly Critical Response Team), which responded to more than 14,000 calls
and 2,000 emails each year to better support families and the DC Public School community.
