To Whom It May Concern,
Making decisions surrounding where you send your child to kindergarten, I’ve learned, is far more
emotionally taxing than I ever could have imagined. As a parent of a child with special needs and as a
professional in the field of developmental disabilities, decisions and satisfaction stretch far beyond the
location, size and reputation of the school. What I have learned is that my comfort, trust and satisfaction
are primarily dependent on the safety, success and happiness of my son. Luckily for our family, we have
found and maintained that comfort, trust and satisfaction with School #42, and specifically while
working with “Miss Amanda”.
Amanda has made such an impact in the life of Brady. Not only has he strengthened his core and
dexterity, but he has also matured from an emotional and sensory standpoint. She creatively works on
his particular needs, while engaging him in things that he enjoys or could benefit from in other areas as
well. She has a natural and fun way of incorporating therapy. Brady loves to bring home and show off
projects that he has worked on with “Miss Amanda” and giggles over pictures that have been taken
during his therapy sessions. There are times when Brady may be hesitant to physically engage because
it’s something new, or something that he fears, and she recognizes that and helps him through the
situation until he’s comfortable. She shares and communicates regularly with me and my husband;
either through e-mail, a communication log, or through attendance at meetings. She provides
recommendations for equipment (specifically a chair wedge and zipper pulls) and activities that can be
encouraged at home (handwriting exercises) and follows-up to see how they have worked.
Amanda is diligent and passionate in her area of clinical expertise; however, she has an innate ability to
bond with those whom she’s working with, thus fostering a person-centered approach. She knows when
to push boundaries and when she might need to take a step back and re-evaluate. She communicates
effectively with her team, with families and with the students with whom she engages in therapy.
Thank You,
Deanna Crosser
