The Shannon
• Longest river in Ireland
• Divides the west of Ireland
• Named after the granddaughter of Lir
• Vikings settled in the region in 10th century
and used the river to raid rich monasteries
deep inland
King Johns Castle
• Situated on 'King's Island‘ in Limerick City
• Built between 1200 and 1210
• Overlooks the river Shannon
• The courtyard and the Castle display some of
the trades and traditions of the 16th Century
Thomond Park
• The stadium holds a special place in rugby due
to its own unique history and atmosphere
• As well as many rugby matches, Thomond
Park has hosted many concerts including P!nk
and JLS.
Lough Gur
• Lough Gur is one of Ireland’s most important
archaeological sites
• The visitor centre tells the story of Pre-Celtic
Ireland dating back to 3000 BC
• There are replicas of Stone Age pottery as well
as other artefacts depicting the lifestyles of
the first inhabitants of Lough Gur
