LIKES AND DISLIKES
Objectives:
1.Learn to talk about your likes and dislikes.
2.Get familiar with basic vocabulary about leisure and pastimes.
3.Practice speaking English freely.
Leisure
It is the free time you spend doing activities that you
enjoy.
Examples:
Gardening,
Hiking,
Watching movies etc.
Pastimes:
Synonyms: Hobbies
An activity that someone does regularly for enjoyment.
Example used in a sentence:
Mr. Lee’s favorite pastime is playing table tennis.
When we talk about our likes and dislikes in general terms we
don’t use the definite article.
When answering a question:
I don’t like (the) coffee.
When asking a question:
Do you like (the) coffee?
When we talk about activities we use the –ING form
When asking a question:
Do you like playing golf ?
When answering a question:
I love sleeping.
Yes, I love it.
Yes, I do.
Yes, sometimes.
Expressions usually used to answer likes and dislikes questions.
Example:
*Do you like pop music?
No, not very much.
No, I don’t.
Not really.
Example:
*Which do you prefer, reading or writing?
I prefer reading to writing.
I like them both.
I don’t like either.

I enjoy playing basketball.
I’m (not) very interested in politics.
I don’t know much/anything about history.
I know quite a lot about designing.

Conversational questions usually asked to know about your likes, dislikes, hobbies
and leisure time.

Genre:
A genre is basically the category of any type of art or
literature, for example categories of movies would be
comedy, horror, thriller etc.

Ask your partner questions about his/her likes and dislikes. What hobbies they like to
do in their leisure time. Please share their answers with the class.
