The product life cycle describes the stages through which all products pass from introduction to decline. Products are introduced and sales grow slowly at first as the product is established in the market. If successful, sales will increase rapidly as more customers adopt the product until eventually most potential customers will have purchased it and sales growth will slow again. Eventually sales will decline as the product becomes obsolete or is replaced by newer versions.
