A school bus accident in Gansu, China resulted in the deaths of 5 children and the driver, with 16 other children dying later in the hospital and 43 injured. The "bus" was actually a minivan with only 9 seats transporting 62 preschoolers. Frequent school transport accidents are blamed on vehicle overloading and lack of proper safety standards for school buses in China. While the government spends heavily on official vehicles, investing even a small portion of those funds in improving school bus safety could help prevent such tragic accidents.
