The document provides a case study of the primary health care system in Thailand. It details the development of Thailand's PHC system over time, from establishment of the "village health volunteer" program in the 1960s to recent universal health coverage reforms. The study examines Thailand's PHC-related governance, financing, human resources, planning and implementation processes. It finds that Thailand has achieved universal health coverage through a mixed single-payer and social health insurance system that relies on primary care services as the foundation of care. However, ongoing challenges include physician shortages in rural areas and a need to strengthen regulatory and monitoring systems to better support PHC delivery.

Morgan Estimating the Risk of Brain Tumors 4-7-09Lloyd Morgan
This article reviews and analyzes published case-control studies on the risk of brain tumors from cellphone use. It finds that the industry-funded Interphone studies reported no increased risk in most cases, while the independently-funded Swedish studies led by Dr. Hardell reported numerous findings of increased brain tumor risk. The article identifies 11 flaws in the Interphone studies' design and methodology that could explain their incredulous findings. In contrast, the Swedish studies' data are consistent with an increased tumor risk from cellphone use and have fewer flaws. Given the potential for a large public health impact if a risk exists, the article argues for applying the precautionary principle and reducing cellphone radiation exposure.

This document discusses the treatment of hand burns. It outlines several key aims and principles of treatment, including rapid wound closure, preservation of active and passive motion, and early functional rehabilitation. The anatomy of the hand makes it vulnerable to burns, as it has a high proportion of skin surface to tissue volume and structures like blood vessels and tendons are near the skin. Proper treatment requires a multidisciplinary team approach and decisions on issues like escharotomy, wound coverage type, splinting and reconstruction of deformities. The overall goal is optimal recovery of hand function.

This document summarizes recent advances in the cellular and molecular biology of brown adipose tissue (BAT). It discusses that BAT is composed mainly of brown adipocytes which contain many mitochondria and express uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1). UCP1 allows BAT to generate heat by uncoupling ATP production from respiration. The sympathetic nervous system activates BAT through norepinephrine signaling on beta-3 adrenergic receptors, initiating pathways that can acutely or chronically activate thermogenesis. BAT plays an important role in non-shivering thermogenesis and energy expenditure, making it a potential target for obesity treatment.

This document summarizes Achilles tendinopathy (AT), including its characteristics, diagnosis, and management. AT is a failed healing response in the Achilles tendon characterized by disrupted collagen fibers and increased non-collagenous matrix. The diagnosis is clinical based on symptoms like pain and swelling. Imaging like ultrasound and MRI can help with diagnosis and differentiate between insertional and non-insertional AT. Conservative management is usually first-line for 3-6 months and includes eccentric exercises, shockwave therapy, and injections. If conservative measures fail, surgery may be considered after 6 months of non-operative management. However, outcomes are variable with both conservative and surgical approaches and symptoms may recur.
The European Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance System (EARSS) annual report summarizes antimicrobial resistance data from over 900 laboratories in 31 European countries. Key findings include:
1) Streptococcus pneumoniae resistance to penicillin is increasing in some countries but decreasing in others. Erythromycin resistance is also increasing in some places.
2) Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus proportions continue to rise across Europe, though some high-prevalence countries are seeing stabilization or decreases.
3) Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium outbreaks continue to spread in European hospitals.
4) Resistance to all classes of antimicrobials in Escherichia coli is

Cellular immunity and immunopathology in autoimmune addison’s diseaseAlifiani Rohma
The document summarizes current knowledge about cellular immunity and immunopathology in autoimmune Addison's disease (AAD). It discusses that AAD results from selective destruction of steroid hormone-secreting cells in the adrenal cortex by immune-mediated inflammation (adrenalitis). While T cells are thought to play a major role in obliterating adrenocortical cells, the mechanisms behind how autoimmune adrenalitis is initiated and perpetuated remain enigmatic. The review provides an overview of the histopathology seen in AAD and the roles of genetic predisposition, endogenous factors, autoantibodies, and cellular immunity in the pathogenesis of the disease. It proposes a hypothesis for how the autoimmune process

Are you looking for a long-lasting solution to your missing tooth?
Dental implants are the most common type of method for replacing the missing tooth. Unlike dentures or bridges, implants are surgically placed in the jawbone. In layman’s terms, a dental implant is similar to the natural root of the tooth. It offers a stable foundation for the artificial tooth giving it the look, feel, and function similar to the natural tooth.

5-hydroxytryptamine or 5-HT or Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that serves a range of roles in the human body. It is sometimes referred to as the happy chemical since it promotes overall well-being and happiness.
It is mostly found in the brain, intestines, and blood platelets.
5-HT is utilised to transport messages between nerve cells, is known to be involved in smooth muscle contraction, and adds to overall well-being and pleasure, among other benefits. 5-HT regulates the body's sleep-wake cycles and internal clock by acting as a precursor to melatonin.
It is hypothesised to regulate hunger, emotions, motor, cognitive, and autonomic processes.

Library Policies For Anatomical Models
With only a few exceptions, anatomical models are available for circulation for
University of Illinois at Chicago’s Peoria-based students, faculty, and staff.
Models are checked out for 24 hours.
At certain times of the year, faculty may choose to place models on Reserve so
that they are only checked out for 1 hour.
The Library will accommodate reservations for models that are needed for a
specific lecture, presentation, etc. It is recommended that you contact the library
at least one week in advance to ensure the availability of the model.
Special arrangements for longer check out times and non-UIC/Peoria patrons can
be made depending upon availability, need, and assurance of the model’s safe
return.
Please ask at the circulation desk to make a reservation or for additional details.
