Teachers, students and scholars have long been able to rely on fair use in making content available for teaching, research and study within the United States. However, such protections don’t exist outside the United States. This session explores the various ways that visual resource professionals have addressed copyright compliance issues when making images available for educational and scholarly purposes outside of the United States. Using various case studies, the session will address the sharing of image resources between and among different institutions, determining when and how images can be made available to the general public, creating image-based research collaborations across national boundaries, and the international aspects of publishing with images.
A paper presented at the 1st International Workshop on Benchmarking Linked Data (BLINK). We present experimental results with the instance matching benchmark generator LANCE that is developed in the context of HOBBIT.
(HOBBIT project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 688227.)
In recent years, lexicography has witnessed an emergence of the digital medium, which has brought many new possibilities for dictionary makers and lexicographers, and has also lead to an emergence of field of e-lexicography. Yet, the digital medium has also brought new challenges for lexicographers who have larger and larger corpora at their disposal, but due to raised expectations of users demanding quick access to up-to-date dictionary information, very little time to analyse them in. This problem is especially significant when it comes to compiling a dictionary from scratch, a prospect faced by the team working on the Dictionary of Contemporary Slovene Language (DCSL).
In my presentation, I will first describe the five-phase lexicographical process of DCSL (Kosem et al. 2013, Gantar et al., in print) and then focus on the first two phases, namely automatic extraction of lexical data from the corpus and post-processing of extracted data, the latter also including the use of crowdsourcing for data clean-up. I will show that the benefits of such an approach are considerable, and do not result in any loss of relevant information for subsequent lexicographic analysis, and consequently in any loss of reliability of dictionary content.

The European (Digital) Library - Overview and OutlookOlaf Janssen
The European Library (www.theeuropeanlibrary.org) is a multilingual portal offering integrated access to the tens of millions of resources (books, magazines, journals...) of 18 national libraries in Europe. It offers free searching and delivers both digital and non-digital objects. It provides a vast virtual collection of mate-rials from all disciplines. The European Library is currently being expanded with the holdings of the national libraries of the 10 EU New Member States. From September 2006 onwards the remaining EU and EFTA na-tional libraries will be connected to TheEuropeanLibrary.org, bringing the total number of participating na-tional libraries to ±35 by the end of 2008.
In the beginning of 2006 the EC expressed support for The European Library to evolve into a much bigger European Digital Library (EDL), including access to the digital collections of other major cultural heritage institutions, such as museums and archives. The EDL is planned to include the holdings of all European na-tional libraries and a minimum of 2M digital works by the end of 2008. By 2010 the EDL needs to have ex-panded to include collections of archives, museums and other libraries, with a minimum of 6M digital works.
The European Library aims to remain a major player in the European cultural heritage field and is already strengthening its cooperation with other relevant key initiatives, such as MACS, DELOS, MICHAEL, BRICKS and MINERVA.

This presentation, created by Syed Faiz ul Hassan, explores the profound influence of media on public perception and behavior. It delves into the evolution of media from oral traditions to modern digital and social media platforms. Key topics include the role of media in information propagation, socialization, crisis awareness, globalization, and education. The presentation also examines media influence through agenda setting, propaganda, and manipulative techniques used by advertisers and marketers. Furthermore, it highlights the impact of surveillance enabled by media technologies on personal behavior and preferences. Through this comprehensive overview, the presentation aims to shed light on how media shapes collective consciousness and public opinion.
