What IT faces today:
You have an increasingly mobile and
distributed work force and the traditional
9-5 job is becoming a thing of the past.
You need to provide the tools/services to
your work force to allow them to
communicate and collaborate anytime,
anywhere.
BYOD: IT increasingly no longer has the
tools, time or exclusivity that it once had
Security is the primary barrier to
widespread mobile deployments in the
enterprise.

Editor's Notes

  • #2 Good Evening everyone. I am going to spend the next few minutes sharing with you some ideas on how mobility in communications has evolved over the years and has gradually but surely taken a centre-stage.
  • #3 Communication as we all know is a basic human need….and mobile communication technology has been around since a long time. We have been constantly seeking means to reach out to others in far away and distant places. It started with smoke signals…..
  • #4 And then advanced into using birds…….
  • #5 The invention of the radio gave this technology a big push
  • #6 Automobile phones introduced in the US were a big hit……
  • #7 Finally in the mid 70s we started to see the first generation mobile phones. These were designed to make only voice calls.
  • #8 Mobile technology in the last 40 years has evolved to a point where there are a plethora of devices. Different form factors catering to personalised whims and fancies of billions of people across the world. Voice is no longer the focal point. Mobile communication is now driven by applications.
  • #10 The workforce is largely distributed. Work is no longer a place but a practice. So as an enterprise how do we provide tools to support collaboration communication in a secured environment.
  • #15 graph
  • #16 The three bed rock applications for mobile UC this year in the enterprise space are Voice over IP, sales force automation and customer help desk management. These applications require the use of audio, video and web collaboration to facilitate increasing interaction and communication amongst team members and with customers
  • #17 While there are hundreds of DIY mobile UC Apps available on the mobile stores; there is an increasing demand from enterprises for customised Apps that are actively supported by service providers with an around the clock customer service team. To give an example from my personal experiences, at Chorus Call we started noticing a growing trend of an increase in the number of users connecting to their conference calls using their mobile phones. The Chorus Call Meet App was developed with a view to provide an easy to use Application that will enable mobile users to conveniently participate in conference calls through one click using their mobile phones.
  • #21 As a collaboration technology company we have introduced a number of products and services that facilitate mobile collaboration for our enterprise customers. We have developed platforms and infrastructure that facilitate enterprise users to collaborate with other stakeholders seamlessly over audio or video connections completely agnostic of either the device or the network to which they are connected to. Further we realise that as mobile collaboration continues to grow there will be a challenge associated with quality of the audio. Bearing this in mind we are currently the first conferencing technology company to introduce High Definition audio in a conference call.
  • #22 No trans At Chorus Call what is driving our future development is this fundamental thought that while there is a lot of push for new protocols we need to continue to support the legacy protocols. So all our products and services are designed such that enterprise customers will be able to connect to their collaboration communication platforms using the device and network of their choice. We currently support platforms where Skype participant can connect over a VC with participants connected to a telepresence or a board room VC unit. Going forward we see a lot of potential in adopting webRTC as a means of connecting into a video conference call. WebRTC will essentially convert the browser into a VC unit. Just imagine the impact this can have on how you engage with your customers and salesforce. We have successfully tested WebRTC based applications. Also looking ahead there is a lot of hype around VOLTE or voice over long term evolution. We have already launched our HD voice audio conference and will continue to adopt new emerging communication protocols. Last but not the least, wearable technology is beginning to make some inroads in the mobile communication space. We would want to take the responsibility to include these devices in our eco system and have them interact seamlessly with the legacy systems
  • #23 Mobile technology is rapidly breaking all barriers and is promising to take us on a beautiful journey. I want to end this presentation with a few passing comments on my personal favourites on how mobility . As a Kid I grew up watching Star Trek and I think Star Trek Influenced our thinking about future technology. Star Wars: Showed us that even in far off worlds humanity and technology must coexist and that communications may not always be something we can touch and see but also feel. And that even though we may possess tremendous power architecting the future can be difficult. Steve Jobs: It still takes a Human. While we are influenced by science fiction and other fantastic images of the future it still take people to make things happen
