It is my pleasure to submit a letter of recommendation on behalf of Giovanni Alayan. I
am privileged to have been his teacher of AP Computer Science last year as well as AP Calculus
BC and Computing Independent Study this year. It has been apparent to me from the start that,
in any new learning experience with which I have challenged him, Giovanni takes great pride in a
job well done. For example, his is often one of the most interesting of the class' solutions to a
problem.
Giovanni is continually challenging himself to learn more. In terms of brilliance,
intuition and creativity, he is easily one of the top 1% of all students that I have ever had in the
35 years that I have taught NYS Regents Math and Science, the 30 years that I have taught AP
Computer Science A and AB, and the 25 years that I have taught AP Calculus AB and BC.
Giovanni has proven himself a hardworking and reliable student. He is a bright young
man whose creativity permeates the classroom. Giovanni has a positive attitude with regard to
learning and mastering new and challenging topics. He is a conscientious student and his
attitude is inspiring to all around him.
I have been impressed with Giovanni’s many pursuits. He has found time to perform
community service (Neighborhood Senior Care, Doctors Without Borders Fund Raiser, United
Nations Volunteer). Giovanni also contributes his expertise to the High School community at
large (Retro Gaming Club, Chess Club, Baking Club, Website Design, Digital Art). Giovanni,
taking every opportunity to challenge himself academically, is the recipient of several awards
(National Honor Society, RIT Computing Medal, Italian Merit Certificate). Giovanni also benefits
from varied work experience (Direct Mailing, Market Research, IT Support).
All in all, I strongly recommend Giovanni Alayan as a successful candidate for the
freshman class of your institution. As a Cornell Alumnus (Physics Major, Electrical Engineering
Minor, class of 1983) myself, I know that Giovanni will distinguish himself in an institution of
higher learning.
