To Whom It May Concern:
Earl Dean was the leading undergraduate instructor in my H212 Introduction to Software Systems (Honours)
class in the fall 2015, and in C212 Introduction to Software Systems in the spring 2016 with 130 students. In
these courses we teach object oriented software development with Java.
Earl was so responsible and knowledgeable, that I delegated to him preparation of all lab and homework
exercises as well as the final project. Earl completed all his duties on time, with high quality, according to the
class schedule. He was very creative in finding interesting and intriguing assignments, which would both
illustrate the topics covered in the class and provoke students to go a step further to do research on their own
and find out the original solutions.
Earl supervised 14 teaching assistants in the spring 2016 and he showed a delicate sense of team work. He
would always find a smooth way to make teaching assistants do their work on time and with high quality. He
did that with a sense of an intuitive leader. Even though they were all undergraduate students, the teaching
assistants accepted Earl as their leader, reported to him and fully acknowledged his leadership.
I always consulted Earl in all aspects of teaching, grading and making decisions related to the course with so
many students.
Earl was definitely the best teaching assistant that I have ever had. I enjoyed his nice personality, his knowledge,
and rational and analytical approach to problem solving.
