1. LESSONPLAN
Year: Science 9
Date: JULY 6, 2021
MostEssentiallearning competencies (MELC):
The relationshipbetweenthe visible constellations iin
the sky and Earth’s positon along its orbit
Code: S9ES-IIIj-35
I. Learning Objectives:
Infer that stars are fixed and can be grouped together
Create pattern of Zodiac Constellation using Cartesian Plane
II. SubjectMatter:
Zodiac Constellations
A. Reference :
MELC, Project EASE Integrated Science Module 18 Page
12-15
B. Materials :
Graphing Paper , pen or pencil, optional :laptop or cellphone
with excel and intermediate paper for improvised graphing
paper.
III. Methodology:
Engage :
FACT OR BLUFF
1. Orion comes from a Greek word which means the Hunter ? Fact
2. Ursa Major is also known as the Great Bear? Fact
3. Aries is a Zodiac constellation which means located in the
northern celestial hemisphere
Concept Mapping. Learners will create a concept map by connecting
word or group of words on the word constellations.
The teacher then select learners to read and discuss their concept
map.
The Teacher will ask the learners if they have tried stargazing.
What have you noticed on the stars
The teacher will emphasize that stars are grouped and named
according to shape they formed.
Explore :
Images of some constellations will be shown with their names
The teacher will ask learners to share something about the importance
of constellations during the ancient times.
Teacher will post examples of beliefs of the ancient people using
constellations
2. Explain :
The teacher will ask the learners about the word Zodiac.
The teacher will show again images of the 12 constellations of the
Zodiac and their other names
The teacher introduces a Mnemonic to easily remember the 12 Zodiac
signs. “ A Tall Gentleman Called Leo Very Likely Stole Some Cream
And Partook.
D. Elaborate:
TRIVIA: Who is the person behind this Cartesian Plane . JUMBLED
LETTERS (2 groups)
The teacher introduces the plotting of the different constellations
using ordered pair and Cartesian Plane
The teacher will give an example on how to plot the stars of the
constellations using ordered pairs in a Cartesian plane in the graghing
paper , improvised graphing paper and in excel.
For students who have laptop or cellphone with excel you can graph
using excel.
E. Evaluation:
Direction: Graph each point for the constellations using the ordered
pairs and Cartesian plane given below. Then trace each point with
coloring pens or crayons and identify the name of the constellation using
the patterns of each constellations.
Quadrant 1: Zodiac constellation name ________
Ordered pairs : A (1,1),(2,2) D (4,3),(3,4) G (5,4),(5,5)
B (2,2),(1,3) E (3,4),(3,5)
C (2,2),(4,3) F (4,3),(5,4)
Quadrant 2: Zodiac Constellations name_______
Ordered pairs: A (-3,5),(-2,4) C (-2,3),(-3,1)
B ( -2,4),(-2,3) D (-2,3),(-1,1)
Quadrant 3: Zodiac constellation name ________
Ordered pairs: A (-3,-1),(-4,-2) D (-1,-2),(-2,-4)
B (-3,-1),(-3,-2) E (-4,-2),(-3,-4)
C (-4,-2),(-1,-2) F (-3,-4),(-4,-5)
Quadrant 4: Zodiac constellation name________
Ordered pairs: A (1,-1),(2,-2) C (4,-3),(4,-1)
B (2,-2),(4,3) D (4,-3),(5,-5)
