Globalization has made the use of computer to grow drastically over the years. More people from different parts of the world are coming closer to one another through computers. The World Wide Web has enabled this phenomenon to be possible, but also, it has led to the emergence of cyber crimes. Although law enforcement agencies have come up with security policies, the number of crimes related to computer theft and hacking is still alarming

Ethics for the Digital Age
By Gry Hasselbalch on 2016-02-05
ANALYSIS: This January the European Data Protection Supervisor presented his new “Ethics Advisory Group”. A group of experts that will help him “reconsider the ethical dimension of the relationships between human rights, technology, markets and business models and their implications for the rights to privacy and data protection in the digital environment.” He is not the first European decision maker or thought leader to bring forward ethics as a guiding principle in the digital age. Over the last year digital ethics, and in particular data ethics, have become the “talk of the town” in Europe. Based on the realisation that laws have not followed pace with the development of digital technologies, technologists, academics, policymakers and businesses are today revisiting cultural values and moral systems when groping for a new ethical framework for the digital age.
Ethics of Technology
Technological developments have in history always at some point during their implementation into society forced us to revisit laws, but in particular also ethical value systems and limits. Time and again we are faced with the fact that technology is in fact not neutral, but contain in their very design ethical implications. The photograph was in its early stage of implementation in the late 19thand early 20th century, discussed as both art and reality. This discussion entered the court rooms and the legal rights over a photograph were determined. It was however not only legal rights that were defined, but a delineation of the very ethical implications of a technology (the camera, the photograph) that could reproduce the appearance of an individual with such accuracy. It was an examination of the particularly human consequences (distress and humiliation) of the capacities of this new technology. Defining a right and wrong and attempting to morally manage its implications for individuals.
What we experience these years is a pace of technological developments as never seen before. Not only did the World Wide Web and the capacities of digital technologies develop over just a few decades, but the digital evolution expanded into practically every area of life and society over an even shorter period of time. It only took a few years after Tim Berners Lee invented an open source information space interlinked by hyperlinks in 1989 before the first online businesses emerged and ordinary people started using internet services in the mid 1990s.
Evidently laws have not followed pace with the countless ethical implications of today’s rapid technological development. Now we are questioning the ethics of automatic systems designed to collect data on us en masse, algorithms designed to predict and profile us, technologies used to surveil us and manipulate us and not the least business models profiting from the most private details on individuals. The only way we can do this is by revisiting our values and morals, t ...

Interview Essay Final Draft
Interview on Challenges that Come with Technology
The Interview
The impact of technology on people’s and corporate’s wellbeing in today’s society
cannot be underestimated. Technology has enhanced interpersonal communication that has, in
turn, enabled individuals to stay connected. Technological revolution has also been instrumental
to business enterprises, improving production efficiency and marketing. However, technology
has also come with several challenges that have compromised people’s wellbeing. As such, I sat
down with Jeremy Jonathan, an information technology (IT) specialist at one of the leading IT
companies in my hometown to inquire about the dangers associated with technology. The
interview was brief, but covered crucial facts of technology, especially its dangers that include
cyberbullying, child pornography, and arms trafficking. As such, technology has been a major
driver of crime in today’s society as it enhances connectivity and anonymity. Below is the
interview’s transcript.
Me: Hello Mr. Jonathan, thank you for agreeing to talk to me on this sensitive issue.
Jonathan: Hello too, it is my pleasure to sit down with you and address today’s subject due to its
significant impact on people’s lives.
Me: To begin with, do you believe technology has had a positive or negative impact on people’s
wellbeing?
Jonathan: I believe technology has significantly enhanced people’s wellbeing, especially from a
communication perspective and production perspective.
Me: It appears that you believe technology is a good thing to people, yet we see several problems
caused by technology. What do you believe is the major driver of the challenges that result from
technological use?
Jonathan: People’s lives would be almost perfect if they used technology appropriately. Thus, I
believe that the misuse of technological devices is the reason for the dangers associated with
technology.
Me: May you please expound on what you have just stated?
Jonathan: I believe that misusing technology endangers people’s wellbeing. For instance, people
abuse social networking sites by bullying other users. At the same time, some individuals use the
internet to undertake criminal activities on the dark web, such as hacking, child pornography and
drugs and arms trafficking.
Me: Do you believe monitoring the use of technological items would neutralize some of its
threats?
Jonathan: I do not believe that would be an ideal approach of mitigating the dangers of
technology use. Instead, people should be educated on the ideal ways of using technological
tools at an early age. For instance, children should netiquettes that would enable them to treat
other social media users with respect and dignity. At the same time, learning appropriate ways of
using the internet would provide children with knowledge and skills to avoi.
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2. Legal and Ethical
Issues in
Technology
Technology has created a slew of new legal and
ethical challenges for the twenty-first century. The
legal and ethical problems in technology are
multifaceted and nuanced, ranging from personal
protection online to acceptable applications of
digital technology to copyright and intellectual
rights on the Internet. New ethical and legal issues
are increasingly emerging as a result of the ever-
evolving evolution of technology, posing a threat to
ethicists and legal practitioners alike.
3. Appropriate
Use
The proper use of technology is one of the
most pressing concerns, and often becomes
a legal matter. As technology improves,
long-standing ethics issues are posed and
taken to the forefront of public debate. For
example, the advent of stem cell science
has resulted in a slew of ethical and legal
consequences for scientists and
policymakers who fund it.
4. Privacy
Because of the pervasiveness of the Internet in people's everyday lives, privacy is an especially contentious
topic of technology. Often websites gather user data without their consent, from usernames and passwords
to personal details including emails and phone numbers. While selling this information is widely regarded as
immoral, it often falls into a legal gray area because the data is provided by the user in the first place.
5. Copyright
With the advancement of technologies, copyright and intellectual property protection have now been
significant concerns. Copyright infringement became increasingly simple and nearly impossible for many
authors as the Internet grew in popularity as a publishing tool. The fight between copyright holders and
software pirates for ownership of their intellectual property is fought on a regular basis online and in the
courts.
6. Netiquette
Refers to the online code of conduct for internet users in terms of what is acceptable and in good taste. The
terms "web" (from the internet) and "etiquette" are combined. Bad decisions made online will have
negative effects.
7. Cyber Bullying
Bullying that occurs on a social networking site, but may also occur through other technology such as text
messages. Bullying differs from normal bullying in that it is more intrusive, targets a larger group, and can
occur at any moment and in any place. One of the fastest-growing forms of bullying among teenagers.
8. Gender
Women and men use internet differently Men are more driven by IT, where as women are more passive in their role as
technology users. Men favor video games Women favor chatting, email
9. Fair Use
Fair use is a doctrine of US copyright law that provides the limited use of patented content without the need
for authorization from the owners of the rights. There are four things to consider: intent, design, number,
and consequence.
10. Social Economic
Many people living in poverty do not get the same technological resources as others, leaving them farther behind in the
digital divide. A lot of technology is expensive and people living in poverty cannot afford them, as they are not a necessity.
