This document presents an evaluative framework developed by Coventry University for the Near Neighbours programme. It finds that Near Neighbours successfully enables local social action and interaction between people of different faiths and backgrounds. Key findings include that 68-81% of small grant projects are locally delivered, over 33,000 people have participated in small grant activities, and the vast majority of small grant activities promote interaction between different faiths. The report develops a conceptual framework and theory of change to guide evaluation, and recommends tools like a standardised data spreadsheet, case studies, and coordinator logbooks to capture Near Neighbours' impact in increasing social action and interaction at a local level.
Japan uses development aid as a tool to establish its competitive identity and promote its soft power abroad. The document analyzes Japan's cultural and aid flows to Asia, particularly Vietnam. It discusses how the Japan Foundation promotes Japanese language and culture through grants while Japan provides infrastructure and poverty reduction projects through ODA loans. Surveys show Vietnam has a generally positive perception of Japan. The document argues Japan wields soft power through economic and cultural capital to reshape its image abroad in a hierarchical structure of power.

Japan provides human resource development aid to countries in mainland Southeast Asia through programs like the Japan Development Scholarship. This aid follows a similar pattern to other Japanese aid and is shaped by an interplay of economic and geopolitical motivations. It favors transitioning recipient economies to market systems aligned with the current global order while also furthering Japan's national interests, such as expanding trade and investment in the region. The aid aims to transplant institutions in recipient countries and demonstrate Japan's commitment to development objectives of the US-led international system.
The document discusses the territorial dispute between China and Japan over the Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands. It argues that realist international relations theories are inadequate to explain the dispute and that domestic and historical factors must also be considered. Geopolitics related to the US-Japan alliance and China's rise play a role. Nationalist movements in both countries have influenced politics. While increased tensions exist, a new war between China and Japan is seen as unthinkable given their economic interdependence. A constructive approach that considers both countries' perspectives on history may be needed to resolve the dispute.
This document discusses the context and process of education reform in developing countries. It outlines several factors shaping the context for reform, including globalization, human development advances, tradition, budget constraints, and the changing roles of governments, NGOs and international organizations. The document also examines the policymaking cycle, including the need to develop evidence-based, rational approaches to reform through assessment, goal-setting, decision-making, implementation, evaluation and institutionalization. Finally, it concludes that successful reform requires understanding both the macro and micro contexts, employing a collaborative process, and establishing realistic goals that are implemented through analysis and stakeholder participation.
This document provides an outline of Benedict Anderson's book "Imagined Communities" which examines the concept of nationalism in the global era. Some key points:
- Anderson argues that nations are "imagined communities" that are socially constructed and limited rather than objective realities.
- The rise of print capitalism and standardized languages in the late 18th century helped spread ideas of nationalism by creating unified fields of exchange and communication.
- Different types of nationalism emerged such as creole nationalism in colonial societies and official nationalism promoted by ruling elites to unite diverse empires.
- By the early 20th century, nationalism had become the international norm as modernization and globalization spread concepts of the nation-state worldwide

notevole: oltre 3mila persone sono state
considerati sicuri. «Subito dopo Fukushi-
ma, in Italia avete convocato un referen-
dum e votato contro il nucleare. La cosa
mi ha molto stupito», dice Yamakawa. «In
Giappone, invece, ci siamo abituati a “in-

imprenditore e guida spirituale statuni-
abitanti.
delfini erano stati rinvenuti spiaggiati in
Nuova Zelanda prima del sisma di Chri-
stchurch del 2011 e in Australia alla vigi-
lia del terremoto e tsunami dell’Oceano
indiano del 2004 che devastò l’isola di
Sumatra in Indonesia colpendo anche
Thailandia, India, Sri Lanka e Somalia.
to di grande entità. Ma l’evento di Kashi-
