The case study discusses the potential of drone delivery and the challenges that need to be addressed before it becomes widespread.
Key takeaways:
Drone delivery is in its early stages: Amazon's trial in the UK demonstrates the potential for faster deliveries, but it's still limited by regulations and technology.
Regulations are a major hurdle: Safety concerns around drone collisions with airplanes and people have led to restrictions on flight height and location.
Other challenges exist: Who will use drone delivery the most? Is it cost-effective compared to traditional delivery trucks?
Discussion questions:
Managerial challenges: Integrating drones requires planning for new infrastructure, training staff, and navigating regulations. There are also marketing and recruitment considerations specific to this technology.
External forces vary by country: Regulations, consumer acceptance, and infrastructure all differ between countries.
Demographics matter: Younger generations might be more receptive to drone delivery, while older populations might have concerns.
Stakeholders for Amazon: Customers, regulators, aviation authorities, and competitors are all stakeholders. Regulators likely hold the greatest influence as they determine the feasibility of drone delivery.

Artificial intelligence (AI) offers new opportunities to radically reinvent the way we do business. This study explores how CEOs and top decision makers around the world are responding to the transformative potential of AI.
1. LEADERSHIP and EXPEDITION BEHAVIOUR
LEADERSHIP
1. Judgment or Decision Making
• Recognize, define and evaluate a situation
• Understand priorities
• Consider options
• Evaluate consequences
• Choose alternatives
• Implement a decision
2. Communication
• Clear and effective
• Articulating group goals
• Engaging in feedback
• Teaching
3. Technical Skills
• Competence and experience in technical skills
• Balance with judgment and communication skills
4. Safety
• Ensuring the safety of self and team members at all times
• Knowing the risks and evaluating them
EXPEDITION BEHAVIOUR:
1. Clear and Effective Communication: honest, straightforward and tactful
2. Conflict Resolution: being open, brainstorming constructive solutions
3. Positive Attitude
4. Respect: for self, each other and the environment. Being polite; no smoking/drinking
5. Seva and Sangha: being helpful; being mindful of the group
6. Self awareness: aware of your conduct, speech, feelings and attitudes.
2. Leave No Trace (LNT) Principles
1. Plan Ahead and Prepare
• Know the regulations and special concerns for the area you'll visit.
• Prepare for extreme weather, hazards, and emergencies.
• Schedule your trip to avoid times of high use.
• Visit in small groups when possible. Split large groups into smaller groups.
• Repackage food to minimize waste.
2. Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
• Use established trails and campsites - rock, gravel, dry grasses or snow.
• Camp at least 200 feet from lakes and streams.
• Good campsites are found, not made. Altering a site is not necessary.
• Walk single file in the middle of the trail, even when wet or muddy.
• Keep campsites small. Use areas where vegetation is absent.
• In new areas:
o Spread use to prevent creating campsites and trails.
o Avoid places where impacts are just beginning.
3. Dispose of Waste Properly
• Pack it in, pack it out. Collect all trash, spilled foods, leftovers and pack it out.
• For human waste dig catholes 6 to 8 inches deep at least 200 feet from water, camp,
and trails. Cover and disguise when finished.
• Pack out toilet paper and hygiene products.
• For washing (yourself, dishes) carry water 200 feet from streams or lakes, use small
amounts of biodegradable soap and scatter strained dishwater.
4. Leave What You Find
• Examine, but do not touch, cultural or historic structures and artifacts.
• Leave rocks, plants and other natural objects as you find them.
• Avoid introducing or transporting non-native species.
• Do not build structures, furniture, or dig trenches.
5. Minimize Campfire Impact
• Use a lightweight stove for cooking and enjoy a candle lantern for light.
• If fires are permitted, use established fire rings, fire pans, or mound fires.
• Keep fires small. Only use sticks from the ground that can be broken by hand.
• Burn all wood and coals to ash, put out campfires completely, scatter cool ashes.
6. Respect Wildlife
• Observe wildlife from a distance. Do not follow or approach them.
• Never feed animals. This can damage their health, alter natural behavior, and expose
them to predators and other dangers.
• Store rations and trash securely.
• Avoid wildlife during sensitive times: mating, nesting, raising young, or winter.
7. Be Considerate of Other Visitors
• Respect other visitors and protect the quality of their experience.
• Be courteous. Yield to other users on the trail.
• Take breaks and camp away from trails and other visitors.
• Let nature's sounds prevail. Avoid loud voices and noises.
