5. Singapore’s Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau
• CPIB received 736 complaints in 2014 – a
7% decrease from 792 complaints in 2013
• The number of cases registered for
investigation reached a 30-year low in
2014, with 136 out of the 736 complaints
received
• Private sector cases made up 85% of all
registered cases for investigation in 2014,
while public sector cases made up the
remaining 15%

6. Tightening reins with new reforms
• New reforms introduced this year by Prime Minister Lee:
– Review of Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA)
– Increased manpower at Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB)
– Creation of new corruption reporting centre
• Prime Minister Lee insists stronger enforcement actions are
needed to ensure trust in public officials and weed out any form of
corruption
– Affect assessment of Singapore’s climate for doing business by other countries
– 3 factors vital to maintain trust & integrity:

conduct into newer markets.
• Firms should weigh potential cost of losing business against potential cost
to reputation should corruption be discovered.
• Organisations, academics and industry groups should collaborate to share
best practices
• Culture of proactive sharing can benefit all organisations in this region
• Enact whistleblower protection laws
• Providing monetary rewards for genuine whistleblowers
