This document discusses using Desire2Learn (D2L) to assess student learning outcomes at the program and course level. It explains that competencies are measurable skills and abilities that are assessed through learning objectives and evaluation activities. The D2L Competencies tool allows mapping program competencies to course learning objectives and activities. It outlines a 5-step process for competency mapping: 1) entering program competencies, 2) entering course objectives, 3) linking objectives to competencies, 4) linking activities to objectives, and 5) setting assessment criteria. Reports in D2L then analyze student performance by objective, competency, and course/program.
Course Outcomes state what a student, on successfully completing the course and earning a pass grade and the credit can perform/do/demonstrate with what he/she has learnt in the course. These are also referred as Learning Outcomes or Student Outcomes though NBA uses the term Course Outcomes (COs). Note that the emphasis is on using/applying the knowledge imparted/acquired by a successful student in the course.

This slide show was created for a presentation intended to inform the audience about the basics of instructional design. Survey data included was collected from several listserves including the Educause LTL and the Calibug Bb listserve.
Developing online courses is only the first step in a much longer process. In this session, we explored how to create a culture to support continuous improvement and looked at new tools to visualize the process.
A digital learning strategy makes a significant and positive impact on organizations, learners, and patients. Learning management systems empower organizations to deploy educational programs, develop competencies, and apply accreditations.
In this webinar we covered best practices when considering moving from classroom-based training to online delivery. This includes the needs of your audience, content creation, delivery, post training data collection, and learning analytics insights.
Managing technology integration in schoolsCarlo Magno
This session answers the following questions: (1) How do we integrate technology in teaching and learning? (2) Is technology integration effective? (3) How do we support technology integration in our schools? (4) How do we know we are in the right track on technology integration?

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2. Competencies - Overview
Competencies are the measurable or observable
knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors.
Competencies validate information about the
knowledge, skills and abilities of students through the
assessment of learning objectives.
D2L Competencies Tool enables us to assess:
Program Competencies
Course Learning Objectives
Evaluation Activities
3. • Continuous improvement – curriculum,
pedagogy
• Student success and retention
• Program Accreditation (Compulsory)
Why?
5. D2L Competencies Structure
A competency structure is a hierarchy composed
of three basic elements:
“Program” Competencies
“Course” Learning Objectives
“Assessment” Activities
6. D2L Terminology: Parent-child

contemporary and non-technical issues in technology profession and the role of
professionals in an interdependent global society.
IT007 Professional Ethics: An awareness and understanding of professional ethics.
Program Outcomes/Competencies:
10. Step #1
D2L administrator (JP Dunn) enters
department level “program” competencies in
D2L database
11. Step #2
Instructor enters course learning objectives in
D2L database
From D2L menu - (Track/Competencies/New/Competencies or
Learning Objectives)
12. Step #3
Mapping process – Instructor links course
learning objectives to “program” competencies
14. Step #4
Link Activities – Instructor select the method to
assess the course learning objectives with
identified activities (quiz items, rubrics,
assignments, discussions)
15. Step #5
Set assessment criteria – Instructor sets the
threshold to assess the learning objectives
(e.g ≥ 60% of overall quiz score)
26. Important considerations
Use standard conventions in D2L to avoid
confusions, including university-wide common
assessment terminology.
Use measurable verbs in learning objectives,
so that they can be assessed using learning
activities.
