The document discusses how information and communication technologies (ICT) could enable dematerialization by reducing resource use and environmental impacts, but are currently being used in a way that increases these effects. It provides three key arguments: 1) Despite increasing efficiency, more materials are used in ICT hardware; 2) Energy use of ICT services is rising despite efficiency gains; and 3) Total material needs are not decreasing despite growth in less material-intensive sectors. The document advocates visions of more sustainable ICT, such as self-sufficient networks, virtual collaboration replacing travel, and recycling robots powered by renewable energy.

This document discusses using Semantic MediaWiki (SMW) for assessment in education. It describes how SMW has been used at the Open University for assessment in courses involving model-driven development, a development practicum, and the semantic web. SMW forms and queries are used to automate parts of the assessment process, including pre-filling feedback forms, generating feedback emails, and providing learning analytics. While SMW worked well for some courses, it was found to be less suitable for direct student assignments in the semantic web course. The document concludes by discussing ongoing research using SMW to develop assessment rubrics and automate other educational administration tasks.

Kenneth D. Stewart - Duke University - PhD Dissertation DocumentKenneth Stewart
This dissertation consists of two independent musical compositions and an article detailing the process of the design and assembly of an electric guitar with particular emphasis on the carefully curated suite of embedded effects.
The first piece, "Phase Locked Loop and Modulo Games" is scored for electric guitar and a single echo of equal volume less than a beat away. One could think of the piece as a 15 minute canon at the unison at the dotted eighth note (or at times the quarter or triplet-quarter), however the compositional motivation is more about weaving a composite texture between the guitar and its echo that is, while in theory extremely contrapuntal, in actuality is simply a single [superhuman] melodic line.
The second piece, "The Dogma Loops" picks up a few compositional threads left by ‘Phase Locked Loop’ and weaves them into an entirely new tapestry. "Phase Locked Loop" is motivated by the creation of a complex musical composite that is for the most part electronically transparent. "The Dogma Loops" questions that same notion of composite electronic complexity by essentially asking a question: 'what are the inputs to an interactive electronic system that create the most complex outputs via the simplest musical means possible?'
The third and final component of the document is the article "Finding Ibrida: Building an Electric Guitar with Embedded Effects" This article details the process of the design and assembly of an electric guitar with integrated effects, while also providing the deeper context (conceptual and technical) which motivated the efforts and informed the challenges to hybridize the various technologies (tubes, transistors, digital effects and a microcontroller subsystem). The project was motivated by a desire for rigorous technical and handsYon engagement with analog signal processing as applied to the electric guitar. ‘Finding Ibrida’ explores sound, some myths and lore of guitar tech and the history of electric guitar distortion and its culture of sonic exploration.
This article discusses the importance of calibration activities to improve reliability among faculty evaluators when assessing student work. The author describes a calibration exercise conducted with three faculty members at their institution. The faculty independently scored a student paper using a rubric and then discussed their ratings. This revealed variations in how each faculty member interpreted the rubric criteria. Follow up discussions helped clarify perspectives and led to minor adjustments in wording for greater consistency. The faculty found value in comparing their ratings and establishing a shared understanding of expectations at each performance level. While calibration improved reliability, the author notes more work is needed given variations that can arise from adjunct faculty interpretations and backgrounds. Overall, calibration was deemed more useful than lengthy rubric criteria or prior professional development for

The author created a survey on SurveyMonkey to gather feedback about their magazine concept from friends, family and others on Facebook. The survey was active for two weeks but only a small number of responses were collected. However, the responses provided useful information, particularly around pricing and color preferences. The majority suggested a price of £4.99 and preferred the colors red, white and black. The survey helped resolve open questions for the author and will inform how they develop their magazine.

Taking the pain out of exam revision.pptxKaren Dacy
Early in the semester, students can begin exam revision by creating revision materials like questions, summaries, diagrams, and flashcards to familiarize themselves with the content. Making revision materials early allows students to focus on details later during intensive study periods. Revision materials can take many forms, such as questions, gapfills, flashcards using the Leitner method, posters, diagrams, and self-quizzes created with computer apps. Students can revisit these materials throughout the semester to track their progress and identify areas needing more work.
Writing good essays in exams requires preparation and practice. Examiners expect a clear argument in response to the question, supported by evidence and reasoning. To prepare, students should write practice questions, outline arguments and main points for each, and rehearse writing under timed conditions. In the exam, students should take time to plan their argument before writing, structure their response with an introduction, body, and conclusion, and allocate time appropriately between essays. Preparing in this way integrates studying content with practicing important exam skills.
Arrive a few minutes early for your exam to avoid feeling rushed. During the reading time, allocate how much time you will spend on each question based on the marks. Read questions carefully to understand what is being asked. In the writing time, make brief plans and note key words and formulas while your memory is fresh. Take breaks between sections to stretch and reduce stress, then focus on what went well after the exam rather than worrying over difficult parts.
To perform well on exams, students should plan their semester workload at the start, work consistently throughout by studying intensively in short bursts with breaks in between, and be strategic about using their time during exams to save overall time and get better results with less work.
Take home exams require thorough preparation and organization. While they allow students to work from home in comfort, time limits are still strict and the standards expected are high. To succeed, students must have a strong familiarity with course materials and theories to quickly and accurately apply principles under exam conditions. Proper preparation includes organizing clear notes and references in advance, allotting sufficient time to each section, and ensuring no distractions during the exam period.
No one is born knowing how to do well in exams. It is important to develop your test taking skills while you learn the subject. If you strike problems, seek help early.
Open book exams require applying and analyzing concepts rather than memorization. Students must manage their time well as they will not have time to fully read materials during the exam. Successful preparation includes thoroughly understanding course concepts and texts as well as identifying the most pertinent information to refer back to during the exam.
This document provides tips for practicing exam technique by applying the facts learned rather than just regurgitating them. It recommends gathering old exam questions, sample questions, and problem sheets to practice identifying, classifying, transforming, and substituting. The final step is to compare your results to solutions to check if they are reasonable or in the right range. Additional tips include classifying problems to demonstrate understanding, revising out of sequence to access knowledge without context clues, and working problems without notes to identify areas needing more study.

LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like
Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems

Changes in vegetation cover refer to variations in the distribution, composition, and overall
structure of plant communities across different temporal and spatial scales. These changes can
occur natural.
How to Make a Field Mandatory in Odoo 17Celine George
In Odoo, making a field required can be done through both Python code and XML views. When you set the required attribute to True in Python code, it makes the field required across all views where it's used. Conversely, when you set the required attribute in XML views, it makes the field required only in the context of that particular view.
