SASS is a CSS preprocessor that allows developers to write code in a scripting language called SASS and then compile it into CSS. SASS offers features like variables, nested rules, mixins, and functions that make writing CSS faster and more organized. It has two syntax options, SCSS which is fully CSS compatible and indented Sass which uses indentation instead of brackets. SASS also allows importing partial files, nesting selectors, extending styles, and using control directives and expressions to conditionally include styles.
I'm excited to announce that I've just released the stable version of Sass 3.5. This release focuses on compatibility with new CSS syntax, and helps lay the groundwork for the upcoming module system and compatibility with Dart Sass.
Dallas Drupal Days 2012 - Introduction to less sass-compassChris Lee
This document provides an introduction to Less, Sass, and Compass, which are CSS preprocessors. It discusses prerequisites including a strong understanding of CSS and familiarity with control structures and variables. The goals are to understand the high-level purpose of preprocessing languages and learn how to get started using them. Methods for using Less, Sass, and Compass with Drupal are presented, including modules and command line tools. Key concepts demonstrated include variables, mixins, importing, and frameworks like Compass. The document encourages questions and provides additional learning resources.
This document discusses WordPress, an open-source content management system (CMS) that can be used to build blogs and websites. WordPress can be deployed on Heroku, Google App Engine, and other platforms and supports databases like SQLite3, MySQL, and PostgreSQL. It is written in PHP and can be extended using plugins. The document also introduces Pyha, a Sinatra-based CMS that uses Haml templating and can be extended through modules.
Compass and Sass are tools that help improve the CSS workflow. Sass is an extension of CSS that adds powerful features like nesting, variables, and mixins to reduce redundancy and make stylesheets easier to maintain. Compass is a framework built with Sass that provides patterns, tools and best practices to solve common CSS problems like resets, typography and sprites.
This document provides an overview of AWS services including EC2, S3, EBS, and pricing models. It discusses how EC2 allows users to launch virtual servers called instances from templates called AMIs. S3 provides simple storage, while EBS allows attaching volumes to EC2 instances. Pricing is based on instance types that vary by CPU, memory, and hourly or reserved rates. The document concludes by covering how to set up the AWS command line tools.

This document discusses ways to optimize web application performance. It defines performance as completing tasks within known standards for accuracy, completeness, speed and cost. Good performance for web applications is generally a load time between 5-8 seconds. The key steps to optimize performance are to measure performance, diagnose bottlenecks, and fix issues at the JavaScript, code, database, server and network levels. Commonly used tools to diagnose performance include slow query logs, Yslow, PageSpeed and Webpagetest. Specific fixes involve techniques such as minifying files, using content delivery networks, improving code and database optimization, employing caching, and upgrading server hardware.

In this session, I explained the core concepts of SASS and how it can enhance your development workflow. Sketch Web Parts first in HTML move them to SPFx later...
[Stefan Bauer] For more than one decade no other SASS revolutionised the way we write CSS nowadays. In modern SharePoint development, this is the core ingredient to deliver optimised and well architecture.
SASS is also one of the core ingredients to develop new customisations for SharePoint through SPFX.
This session will give you an overview of the most useful concepts in SASS. Besides you will get to know some limitations in SPFX and how to handle those properly.
After this session you will be able to:
• Sketch and develop web parts faster
• Create your reusable CSS
• Apply themes to your web parts
• Handle external CSS properly in SPFX
This document discusses accelerated CSS techniques using tools like CSS frameworks, JavaScript, and CSS preprocessors. It introduces concepts like nested rules, variables, mixins, extends, imports, and powerful functions in CSS preprocessors that allow generating complex CSS from simpler code. CSS frameworks like Blueprint and modules for CSS3 properties are demonstrated. Image sprites are also mentioned briefly.
SASS (Syntactically Awesome StyleSheets) is a CSS pre-processor that allows for nested rules, variables, mixins and more to extend the functionality of CSS. It compiles into regular CSS. Key features include nesting rules to reduce repetition, using variables to define common values for reuse, and creating mixins for commonly used CSS patterns or properties. SASS also allows for logic and functions. COMPASS is an open-source framework built on SASS that provides pre-made mixins and modules for common CSS patterns to simplify development.
This document provides an overview and introduction to Sass and Compass:
- Sass is a CSS pre-processor that adds features like variables, nesting, mixins and functions to regular CSS. It makes CSS more powerful and maintainable.
- Compass is a library of useful CSS functions and mixins built on Sass. It helps speed up development by providing things like cross-browser CSS3 rounded corners.
- Grunt is a JavaScript task runner that can be used to automate repetitive tasks like compiling Sass files into regular CSS. The Gruntfile.js configures Grunt's settings and tasks.
Atlanta Drupal Users Group - Lightning Talks - SassEric Sembrat
This document summarizes a presentation about using Sass to preprocess CSS. Sass allows for nested rules, variables and functions, operators, mixins, and partials to organize CSS in a cleaner way. It introduces Sass and explains how it can fix issues with CSS by allowing nesting, variables, mixins, and more to make styling more maintainable. The presentation provides resources to learn more about Sass capabilities and contact info for the presenter.
The document discusses various new elements in CSS3 including shadow effects, rounded corners, border images, colored borders, opacity transitions, RGBA/HSLA colors, attribute selectors, multi-column layouts, transitions, web fonts, and media queries. Presentation for HTTQ in February 2013 by Ben Byrne on the CSS Preprocessor SASS, including getting it installed with ruby, sass and scss syntax, common Compass mixins, and sprites.
This document discusses how to beautify a Sencha app using Sass/SCSS. It covers what SCSS is, setting up the Compass environment, using Compass in a Sencha app, SCSS mixins and variables in Sencha, and theming in Sencha. SCSS allows for nesting, inheritance and variables/mixins to generate CSS. Compass compiles SCSS files. The document demonstrates including SCSS files in a Sencha app project, compiling them with Compass, and using Sencha-provided SCSS mixins and variables to style components for theming.
SASS (Syntactically Awesome Style Sheets) is a preprocessor scripting language that extends CSS by adding features like variables, nested rules, mixins, and functions. It allows for more efficient, organized, and reusable CSS code. SASS files are compiled into normal CSS files. SASS offers features like variables, nesting, mixins, inheritance, calculations, and conditions that make CSS more powerful, organized, and maintainable. SASS files use the extensions .sass or .scss and are compiled into regular .css files using a CSS preprocessor.
