Creating a Culture of Evidence-Based Practice
Evidence-based practice (EBP) in its most simplistic form is using the evidence, whether from clinical experiences or patient preferences, to make decisions that affect patient care positively (Polit & Beck, 2017). Evidence-based practice is essential for determining changes in practice that are needed to protect and provide safe care for patients. Nurses are the front-line of the healthcare system and are able to recognize and change policies and procedures. Therefore, nurses are responsible for sharing with their peers and co-workers the information obtained from their evidence-based research.
In order to make evidence-based changes, a dissemination plan needs to be in place. In our facility, our evidence-based practice nurse committee is responsible for teaching the staff on changes in practice. Once they have decided on the changes they present the information to the Emergency Department leadership. From there the changes are reported to the nursing staff through department meetings, bulletin boards, and online learning modules. This is based on the ACE Star Model of Knowledge Transformation which seeks to take research findings and use them to impact patient outcomes by using evidence-based care (Polit & Beck, 2017).
“Often in the dissemination phase, there are considerable barriers that exist. These barriers consist of prejudice toward findings, lack of approval from leadership, nurses attitudes, and the resources needed to make changes. Moore & Tierney (2019) found,
“an overarching theme of disconnection between research and evidence and the participants’ perceptions of contemporary nursing practice was underpinned by three themes:
1) We should be using it… but we’re not.
2) Employees suggested that research involvement was something left after graduation and no longer part of their day-to-day roles.
3) Research is other people’s business (p. 90).
In another report, it was suggested that evidence-based practice is challenging for nurses because of the pressures of a patient satisfaction culture and time constraints when caring for patients (Henderson & Fletcher, 2015). These barriers can only be overcome if nursing leadership has the courage to address them and help nurses see the positive benefits of evidence-based practice.
A culture of change is vital to making a significant improvement in the lives of patients. At this time nursing researchers are limited by a non-existent research culture leaving them nurses with the responsibility to develop that culture (Berthelsen & Holge-Hazelton, 2018). Creating an awareness of the research that is taking place by their peers removes the barriers of feeling not competent to participate. As nursing leadership, our role is to build a culture that creates curiosity and critical reflection ab.

Again, adverse outcomes, including malnutrition, poor life quality, low birth weight, mortality, and disability, are relative to poor eating patterns. Therefore, recognizing diet’s role at the onset of disease and evaluating the nutritional status of a community, family, and individual are essential public health. In this case, nutritional assessment help to obtain information concerning the geographical distribution and prevalence of nutritional disorders in a community or a specific population group. Identifying recently published articles that support present nutritional status evaluation is necessary to locate essential evidence for the topic. Hence, it was imperative to determine scholarly academic sources whose publications range within the past five years to facilitate up-to-date information that applies to the paper’s focus. In this case, I used search terms “Malnutrition,” “Mini Nutritional Assessment,” and “Diets” in the NCBI and PubMed search databases. Here, I located the articles “Assessing and Evaluating Nutritional Status, Diets, and Physical Activity” and “Evaluation of Nutritional Status of Elderly Patients Presenting to the Family Health Center” using this technique to find information that supports nutritional status assessment.
Article Findings
The findings in the articles emphasize the significance of implementing nutritional status assessments to maintain individuals’ health status. Cross-sectional research took place at a domestic health center in Turkey. The study sample consisted of 102 patients in FHC without severe dementia, communication problems, or psychiatric conditions (Nazan & Buket, 2018). Participants completed an MNA questionnaire regarding daily meal numbers, feeding mode, fluid and protein consumption, anthropometric measurements, and patients’ self-view concerning health and nutritional status. In the study, 31% of the participants had malnutrition risk, while 13% were malnourished. The findings showed that malnutrition prevalence was higher in males, and malnutrition risk increases with age in any geriatric population. Abstract
Increasing evidence suggests that public health and health-promotion
interventions that are based on social and behavioral science theories
are more effective than those lacking a theoretical base. This article pro-
vides an overview of the state of the science of theory use for designing
and conducting health-promotion interventions. Influential contempo-
rary perspectives stress the multiple determinants and multiple levels of
determinants of health and health behavior. We describe key types of
theory and selected often-used theories and their key concepts, includ-
ing the health belief model, the transtheoretical model, social cognitive
theory, and the ecological model. This summary is followed by a review
of the evidence about patterns and effects of theory use in health behav-
ior intervention research. Examples of applied theories in three large
public health programs illustrate the feasibility, utility, and challenges of
using theory-based interventions. This review concludes by identifying
cross-cutting themes and important future directions for bridging the
divides between theory, practice, and research.

Creating a Culture of Evidence-Based Practice
Evidence-based practice (EBP) in its most simplistic form is using the evidence, whether from clinical experiences or patient preferences, to make decisions that affect patient care positively (Polit & Beck, 2017). Evidence-based practice is essential for determining changes in practice that are needed to protect and provide safe care for patients. Nurses are the front-line of the healthcare system and are able to recognize and change policies and procedures. Therefore, nurses are responsible for sharing with their peers and co-workers the information obtained from their evidence-based research.
In order to make evidence-based changes, a dissemination plan needs to be in place. In our facility, our evidence-based practice nurse committee is responsible for teaching the staff on changes in practice. Once they have decided on the changes they present the information to the Emergency Department leadership. From there the changes are reported to the nursing staff through department meetings, bulletin boards, and online learning modules. This is based on the ACE Star Model of Knowledge Transformation which seeks to take research findings and use them to impact patient outcomes by using evidence-based care (Polit & Beck, 2017).
“Often in the dissemination phase, there are considerable barriers that exist. These barriers consist of prejudice toward findings, lack of approval from leadership, nurses attitudes, and the resources needed to make changes. Moore & Tierney (2019) found,
“an overarching theme of disconnection between research and evidence and the participants’ perceptions of contemporary nursing practice was underpinned by three themes:
1) We should be using it… but we’re not.
2) Employees suggested that research involvement was something left after graduation and no longer part of their day-to-day roles.
3) Research is other people’s business (p. 90).
In another report, it was suggested that evidence-based practice is challenging for nurses because of the pressures of a patient satisfaction culture and time constraints when caring for patients (Henderson & Fletcher, 2015). These barriers can only be overcome if nursing leadership has the courage to address them and help nurses see the positive benefits of evidence-based practice.
A culture of change is vital to making a significant improvement in the lives of patients. At this time nursing researchers are limited by a non-existent research culture leaving them nurses with the responsibility to develop that culture (Berthelsen & Holge-Hazelton, 2018). Creating an awareness of the research that is taking place by their peers removes the barriers of feeling not competent to participate. As nursing leadership, our role is to build a culture that creates curiosity and critical reflection ab.

An individual’s nutritional status mainly results from various factors interacting at different levels (Shirakabe et al., 2018). Nevertheless, an individual’s eating pattern is an essential factor that dictates disease occurrence, particularly some chronic conditions like hypertension, cancer, stroke, heart disease, and diabetes. Again, adverse outcomes, including malnutrition, poor life quality, low birth weight, mortality, and disability, are relative to poor eating patterns. Therefore, recognizing diet’s role at the onset of disease and evaluating the nutritional status of a community, family, and individual are essential public health. In this case, nutritional assessment help to obtain information concerning the geographical distribution and prevalence of nutritional disorders in a community or a specific population group. The assessment also aids in planning corrective measures and examining the effectiveness of applied strategies simultaneously.
Article Search
Identifying recently published articles that support present nutritional status evaluation is necessary to locate essential evidence for the topic. Hence, it was imperative to determine scholarly academic sources whose publications range within the past five years to facilitate up-to-date information that applies to the paper’s focus. In this case, I used search terms “Malnutrition,” “Mini Nutritional Assessment,” and “Diets” in the NCBI and PubMed search databases. Here, I located the articles “Assessing and Evaluating Nutritional Status, Diets, and Physical Activity” and “Evaluation of Nutritional Status of Elderly Patients Presenting to the Family Health Center” using this technique to find information that supports nutritional status assessment.
Article Findings
The findings in the articles emphasize the significance of implementing nutritional status assessments to maintain individuals’ health status. Cross-sectional research took place at a domestic health center in Turkey. The study sample consisted of 102 patients in FHC without severe dementia, communication problems, or psychiatric conditions (Nazan & Buket, 2018). Participants completed an MNA questionnaire regarding daily meal numbers, feeding mode, fluid and protein consumption, anthropometric measurements, and patients’ self-view concerning health and nutritional status. In the study, 31% of the participants had malnutrition risk, while 13% were malnourished. The findings showed that malnutrition prevalence was higher in males, and malnutrition risk increases with age in any geriatric population. Again, patients with malnutrition portrayed severe appetite loss. Generally, the study shows that the malnutrition rate increase rapidly in parallel with the global elderly growth. Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. Operation Blue Star - Saka Neela Tara
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
