Laurie Leitch, PhD, is the research director for the Foundation of Human Enrinchment and a coufounder of the Trauma Research Institute. Jan Vanslyke, PhD, and Marisa Allen, ABD, are senior evaluation specialists at Reid and Associates. The purpose of this study was to determine if the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Resiliency Model (SE/TRM) could "reduce the post disaster symptoms of social service workers“ who deliver services to individuals and communities after a disaster.
The researchers conducted a quantitative study of 142 social service workers who provided service after huricanes Katrina and Rita in New Orleans. The study was conducted on a nonrandom sample of 142 social service workers. 91 participants received SE/TRM and they were compared with 51 workers who did not receive SE/TRM and were matched via propensity score matching. They hypothesis was that the use of SE/TRM could reduce the symptoms of disaster relief workers post disaster. Data analysis showed that there was a significant difference between the two groups in relation to post disaster relief. The group that received SE/TRM showed significantly lower PTSD symptoms and psychological distress and higher levels of resiliency. The authors noted that all of the participants in this study were employed, which sets them apart from many disaster survivors as well as the study was not a „randomized control study“. Further research is needed to further study the effectiveness of SE/TRM in the field of disaster treatment.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of 15 "new or novel interventions“ that are being utilizef for the treatment of PTSD. This work was funded by the Department of Veterans‘ Affaris and National Health and Medical Research Council Programs. The study eliminated appraoches that did not offer "moderate quality evidence from randomized controlled trials“ by a team of 5 Trauma Experts. To be included, studies also required adults over 18 years of age, 70% of the sample majority were diagnosed with PTSD and outcome data were reported for severity of symptoms and diagnosis. Problem Statement
The family make-up and dynamic has changed significantly over the past twenty decades and women are serving as head of households. Medved notes 40% of U.S women, a 30% increase from 1960, are primary earners in households with children (as cited in Wang, Parker & Taylor, 2013). Additionally, more women are in previously predominantly male occupations such as Emergency Medical Services (EMS), firefighting, police force and now in emergency management roles. When women in these head of household roles are in these essential personnel or responder roles, finding a balance between the requirement to be on scene and ensuring their families are safe is proving to be a difficult challenge. Men find it difficult to need to respond to and after a disaster. A woman serving as head of their household will have more of a challenge with those same excuses and reasons as their male counterparts.
Women in roles that require their presence during emergencies or disasters are finding that their support needs are different than their male counterparts, adding to, having to battle the attitudes of those that are less understanding of the new family dynamic. Agocs, Langan & Sanders (2015) argues that police mothers, based on the little research that does exists, navigate “challenges because of social expectations that inevitably come into play once their “mother” identity is known” (Agocs, Langan & Sanders (2015, P. 266). Women are expected to choose between work and family. Research will show that support from employers could benefit from a little more compassion of the new family dynamic. My employer has several methods for obtaining information from associates to help identify and solve problems, specifically interviews, surveys, and observations. Known as “fireside chats,” our one-on-one interview method randomly selects five different associates each month and provides them with a 45-minute, uninterrupted meeting with the executive director. During this interview, the executive director asks a series of predetermined questions developed to probe for honest and transparent opinions of issues and conditions within the community. Once those questions are discussed, the associate is given the opportunity to share any other items that were not mentioned previously. Surveys are conducted annually or bi-annually to collect predetermined data for the purposes of (1) tracking progress on existing concerns and (2) identifying the manifestation of new concerns. The surveys come from the home office to address concerns that affect the entire company. Since there is a significant number of employees for whom English is a second language, the survey is offered in English and Spanish so as many people as possible can provide answers in their native tongue. Unfortunately, because many of employees are of low socio-economic status, distributing the survey electronically has mixed results – many employees do not have easy access to technology while others simply do not know who to use it. To help with this problem, employees are encouraged to complete surveys onsite using company tablets.
Finally, observations allow us “to collect data on actual behavior rather than reports of people’s behavior” (Anderson, 2016, p. 151). We do not use this a primary source of data gathering; rather, informal and formal observations give us the opportunity to confirm reports first-hand. Unofficially and informally, I will often observe goings-on to try identifying potential concerns so we can implement interventions before preemptively.

Laurie Leitch, PhD, is the research director for the Foundation of Human Enrinchment and a coufounder of the Trauma Research Institute. Jan Vanslyke, PhD, and Marisa Allen, ABD, are senior evaluation specialists at Reid and Associates. The purpose of this study was to determine if the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Resiliency Model (SE/TRM) could "reduce the post disaster symptoms of social service workers“ who deliver services to individuals and communities after a disaster.
The researchers conducted a quantitative study of 142 social service workers who provided service after huricanes Katrina and Rita in New Orleans. The study was conducted on a nonrandom sample of 142 social service workers. 91 participants received SE/TRM and they were compared with 51 workers who did not receive SE/TRM and were matched via propensity score matching. They hypothesis was that the use of SE/TRM could reduce the symptoms of disaster relief workers post disaster. Data analysis showed that there was a significant difference between the two groups in relation to post disaster relief. The group that received SE/TRM showed significantly lower PTSD symptoms and psychological distress and higher levels of resiliency. The authors noted that all of the participants in this study were employed, which sets them apart from many disaster survivors as well as the study was not a „randomized control study“. Further research is needed to further study the effectiveness of SE/TRM in the field of disaster treatment.

Problem Statement
The family make-up and dynamic has changed significantly over the past twenty decades and women are serving as head of households. Medved notes 40% of U.S women, a 30% increase from 1960, are primary earners in households with children (as cited in Wang, Parker & Taylor, 2013). Additionally, more women are in previously predominantly male occupations such as Emergency Medical Services (EMS), firefighting, police force and now in emergency management roles. When women in these head of household roles are in these essential personnel or responder roles, finding a balance between the requirement to be on scene and ensuring their families are safe is proving to be a difficult challenge. Men find it difficult to need to respond to and after a disaster. A woman serving as head of their household will have more of a challenge with those same excuses and reasons as their male counterparts.
Women in roles that require their presence during emergencies or disasters are finding that their support needs are different than their male counterparts, adding to, having to battle the attitudes of those that are less understanding of the new family dynamic. Agocs, Langan & Sanders (2015) argues that police mothers, based on the little research that does exists, navigate “challenges because of social expectations that inevitably come into play once their “mother” identity is known” (Agocs, Langan & Sanders (2015, P. 266). Women are expected to choose between work and family. Research will show that support from employers could benefit from a little more compassion of the new family dynamic. How do effective nurse leaders and others approach problem solving and decision making in organizations? As suggested in this week’s Learning Resources, systems theory provides a valuable way to assess situations and prepare to address problems.
For this week’s Discussion, you identify an issue or process that could be improved and apply knowledge and strategies related to systems theory.

To prepare:

Review the information presented in this week’s Learning Resources on systems theory and the difference between open and closed systems.
·
Reflect on the practices and processes with which you are familiar in your organization. Identify one problematic issue or process that could be improved.
·
Consider the problem from a closed-system perspective. Then think about how the issue or process you selected could be addressed by viewing it from an open-system perspective. How would the transition from a closed- to an open-system view help you and others to address the problem and improve outcomes?

Effective leaders have a high degree of self-awareness and know how to leverage their strengths in the workplace. Assessments are a valuable tool that professionals can use to learn more about themselves and consider how their temperament and preferences influence their interactions with others.
As you engage in this learning process, it is important to remember that everyone—regardless of temperament type or related preferences—experiences some challenges with regard to leadership. The key to success is being able to recognize and leverage your own strengths while honoring differences among your colleagues.
At some point in your leadership career, you will encounter an ethical or moral dilemma that requires you to take a stand and defend your position.
For this Assignment, you evaluate an issue and consider how you could act as a moral agent or advocate, facilitating the resolution of the issue for a positive outcome.
To prepare:
Consider the examples of leadership demonstrated in this week’s media presentation and the other Learning Resources. (Democratic, authoritative, or Laissez-Faire)
To further your self-knowledge, you are required to complete the Kiersey Temperament as indicated in this week’s Learning Resources. Consider your leadership style (Democratic), including your strengths for leading others and include your results from Kiersey Temperament Sorter to describe potential challenges related to your leadership style.
Mentally survey your work environment, or one with which you are familiar, and identify a timely issue/dilemma that requires you to perform the leadership role of moral agent or advocate to improve a situation (e.g., speaking or acting on behalf of a vulnerable patient, the need for appropriate staffing, a colleague being treated unfairly).
What ethical, moral, or legal skills, dispositions, and/or strategies would help you resolve this dilemma? Define the differences between
ethical, moral, and legal leadership.
Finally, consider the values and principles that guide the nursing profession; the organization’s mission, vision, and values; the leadership and management competencies addressed in this course; and your own values and reasons for entering the profession. What motivation do you see for taking a stand on an important issue even when it is difficult to do so?

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic Imperative
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people.
