• Died :- 27th August 1965
• Attracted to Visual Arts and take
admission in Arts School of Paris.
• His architecture teacher at Art
School was influenced by his house
design.
• He is a founder of Modernism in
Architecture.

CONCEPTS

5. • Le Corbusier was inspired by the
magical ratio of 1.61 ( the golden
ratio). The height of the Modulor
Man, according to Corbusier, was
1.61 times the length of the height
up to the man’s belly button.
• The proportions of the Modular
Man inspired and informed many of
Corbusier’s homes and structures.

10. CHANDIGARH
• Chandigarh is designed by Ar. Le
Corbusier.
• The planning concept was came from
the PALM.
• The connecting roads are straight
and devide the city into the sector.
• Each sector have its own residential
area, commercial area, gardens.
• The entire city is designed good and
called as a master project of Le
Corbusier

11. THE ASSEMBLY HALL
• IT IS SQUARE IN PLAN WITH A MONUMENTAL PORTICO FACING THE MAIN
PLAZA
• ON THE LATERAL FACADES BOTH THE PORTICO AND THE OFFICE BLOCK
WOULD BE DEFINED BY SOLID END WALLS
• THE LARGE CHAMBER IS IN HYPERBOLIC FORM OF THE COOLING TOWER
WITH AN AVERAGE THICKNESS OF 15 CMS
• THE UPPER PORTION OF THE TOWER IS EXTENDING ABOVE THE ROOF
LINE
• AN ASSEMBLY CHAMBER IS 128 FT IN DIAMETER AT ITS BASE AND RISES
TO 124 FT AT ITS HIGHEST POINT THIS TOWER WAS DESIGNED TO INSURE
THE NATURAL LIGHT,VENTILATION AND PROPER ACOUSTICS

13. THE HIGH COURT
• Coloured Massive Pillars
• Full Height Entrance.
• Double roof gap Between
the slab.
• Play with form and
shadow.
• A rough finished concrete
ramp.
• A big Entrance Hall at the
entry.

15. UNITE D’ HABITATION, FRANCE
• It is a 18 storey building having 337
appartments for 1600 peoples.
• 15 floors are for residential
• Floor 7 and 8 for commercial
• The building is constructed between the
well landscape area support on pilotes.
• The units are offset in a pattern that they
formanig a series of vertical ‘L’ interlocking.
• Single storey or double storey balconies are
given.

17. CHAPEL NOTRE – DAME – DU –HAUT, FRANCE
• It is a modern church design by the Le Corbusier, in
this project he played with the form of the building.
• The Church having two entrences.
• At the west a metallic composition is there which
having 3 bells
• Towards the south end a residential area for the
Clergy whose roof is fully Landscape.
• At the North a pyramid is situated which is a symbol
of Peace.
• The entire complex is a master piece of structure.
