King David, at age 30, had secured and united the promised land for Israel. However, in the last 20 years of his life, from 1010-970 BC, David committed adultery with Bathsheba and had her husband Uriah killed. When the prophet Nathan confronted David with a parable, David recognized his sins. David wrote Psalm 51 expressing remorse and asking God for forgiveness. He acknowledged his transgressions against God and asked God to purge him, create a clean heart within him, and restore his joy. The document examines David and Bathsheba's actions and roles, and discusses how repentance can wash away sins through God's mercy.

Why are we scared to die? 1. We lack "spirit" eyes. We are bound to the flesh and unable to accept spiritual truths. 2. We don't trust God's promises. God has promised that the next life is better than we can even imagine. 3. We don't actually think we're going to heaven. We think we haven't "done enough" to go - we're right! We haven't and we can't. We are saved by grace through faith. So why are we scared?

Matthew 7:21-23 There are two and only two ways which we can travel. Broad or Narrow way. Life or Death. Blessing or cursing. Obedient or rebel. Eternal Life or Everlasting Punishment. Saved or condemned. Everlasting life or Wrath of God. Resurrection of life or resurrection of condemnation. Eternal life or indignation and wrath. Everlasting life or corruption.
Just as you are, in confusion come, in pain come, in turmoil come, and let the blood of the resurrected Lamb of God set you free.
Once more repeat the words that saved your soul 'Just as I am Lord messed up with nothing to offer you, Lord Jesus I come' 'heal me and I shall be healed' ‘save me and I shall be saved’ Jeremiah 17:14 for in you Lord do I put my trust.

Our last "Re-routing" toward eternal joy is failure. Though failure has an awful sting to it, it is most painfully true for men, as Genesis 3 tells us. Frustration, futility, and failure are meant to drive men to God, not just in a generic way, but specifically, to discover a joy they would never experience apart from the awful road of failure.
After David had Uriah killed, his heart turned to God. Psalm 51 records a prayer of David asking God to cleanse his heart. How did he recover from such a great sin and restore his relationship with God?

What happened after David and Bathsheba's sins? How does forgiveness occur? What other spiritual blessings can be discovered through repentance? God loves us so much, that he allows the consequences of our sin to play out. It’s hard for us to see that as love, until we can look at the situation from God’s perspective.

This 6-day reading plan features devotions that will help you reflect on God’s Word as it relates to the life of a woman and the many varied roles she plays. These daily devotions inspire women to spend time with God.
REPENTANCE
I. Repentance gives God glory
A. As the all-knowing God that he is
B. As the just and holy God that he is
C. As a merciful and gracious God
II. Repentance is the goal of God’s work
A. His mercies are his work
B. His judgments are his work
Conclusion:
• Give God glory by genuine repentance.
• Give God glory by immediate repentance.
God intended for the Jews to live in the land he promised them. The problem is: this land was already occupied by other people. In telling the Jews to “take” the land, did God command genocide or ethnic cleansing? This is a difficult and often misunderstood part of the Old Testament history. How can a God of love be responsible for wiping out “innocent” people, for the sake of his own…or were they innocent?
Changing the label on sin does not change the result of the sin. A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet. A skunk by any other name would stink just as bad.
The Book of Joshua is the sixth book in the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament, and is the first book of the Deuteronomistic history, the story of Israel from the conquest of Canaan to the Babylonian exile.

Renewed in Grace
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

10. PSALM 51—DAVID AFTER BATHSHEBA
1 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy
lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy
tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse
me from my sin.
3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is
ever before me.
4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this
evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when
thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.
5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my
mother conceive me.
6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in
the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash
me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones
which thou hast broken may rejoice.
9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine
iniquities
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit
within me.
11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy
spirit from me.
12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with
thy free spirit.
13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall
be converted unto thee.
14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my
salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.
15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth
thy praise.
16 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou
delightest not in burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a
contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
18 Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls
of Jerusalem.
19 Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of
righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then
shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.

Welcome to Sunday School—Another beautiful day in the PACIFIC NORTHWEST
Any visitors—new members?
Opening Prayer_____________________________
Believe it or not I’m going to start with another object lesson even though my last one with Bro
Jacobsen failed so miserably –this one involoves NO WATER I promise!! Samson like strength
Then have the class member break the thread by pulling his or her hands sharply outward.
What should we do when an unclean thought enters our minds? Dismiss it easeily
Wrap more around—not so easy to break
I need 2 scripture readers today – Our theme is creating a clean heart—heart shaped soap
Jonathan and King Saul have died in battle—let’s read in 2 Samuel 1 11-12 David’s response
Jewish tradition continues this today called Keriah’
A public way to show grief and deep sorrow---tear over the heart to show broken heart
INTERESTING THAT IN JOEL –GOD SAYS IT IS BETTER TO REND YOUR HEART
Do you think David is sincere here? Frined/father-in-law/his life changes too
David says this of Jonathan and Saul—it’s quite ironic as we see what happens to him
So now David is King—he made some amazing changes with the Children of Israel
Last 20 years he made some choices that pit a real smudge on his life that is difficult to overcome and that is our discussion today
So Let’s get into it—
R2– “tarried at Jerusalem”
up at night on roof
sees “pornography”
Has he done anything wrong at this point?
BKP says…
Let’s continue reading these fateful verses that changed—the course of a lot of peoples lives
Can’t help but compare David’s reaction to Joseph of Egypt’s reaction
David thought he could hide what he had done with Bathsheba
What do you think Bathshebas role was…flattered, temptress, victim?
The Lord sent the Prophet Nathan to David to give him this parable--we will discuss each of the charaectars in this parable
Rich, poor, lamb---who/ what is the traveler? Interesting to think of sin as a temporary traveler that we give fleeting attention to
What has David’s reaction? Do sometimes fail to recognize sinfulness in our own lives?
Doctrine and covenants gives us insight about David’s standing---132:
--
Turn to psalms 51—Here is where David talks about his sin with Bathshsheba;
split the room in half and then share what verses speak to you
I want to close with me favorite part of Psalms 51 in verse 17---very reminiscent of what is said many times in the BOM
all that we can offer to God is a broken spirit and contrite heart just as David did;
we are all going to sin—what matters is how we respond to it; do we quickly turn and run back to the Lord
OR
try to hide from it and cover it up
My prayer is that we can find our way back to the Savior and allow him to create in us a clean heart—cut the sinful ties that bind us! ---- SCISSORS---
In the name of Jesus Christ AMEN
NEXT WEEK --- We continue delving into the Psalms with Bro. Thayne!
