Activists protest to convince governments or groups to take action, demonstrate the seriousness of an issue, or draw attention through media. Protests should be non-violent and communicate with police; going limp during arrest is not resisting. Acts can be terrorism if they intimidate the public, cause death/harm, damage property, or interfere with essential services. Suspected terrorists in Canada retain most rights and must be charged within 24 hours of arrest with access to legal counsel under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
