WAN
A wide area network is a large network Of information that is not tied to
a single location. WANs can facilitate communication, the sharing of
information and much more between devices from around the world
through a WAN provider.
A wide area network is a telecommunications network that extends over
a large geographic area for the primary purpose of computer
networking.
WAN is used for?
• WANs are used to connect LANs and other types of networks
together so that users and computers in one location can
communicate with users and computers in other locations.
Example
• A WAN can cover country, continent or even a whole world. Internet
connection is an example of WAN. Other examples of WAN are
mobile broadband connections such as 3G, 4G etc.
Advantages
• Cover large geographical area
• Sharing the Software and Resources
• Global business
• High bandwidth
• Disadvantages:
• Security problems
• Need antivirus software
• To setup cost is high
• Server down and disconnection issue
Point to point wan
• A point-to-point connection is one of the most common types of
WAN connection. PPP connections are used to connect LANs to
service provider WANs
Switched wan
• WAN Switching is a technology where computers are connected to
each other over a long distance, using telephone lines and satellite
communications utilizing serial transmission.
