Why is planning important?
 Allows the parish to direct growth rather than simply
  being the recipient of growth
 Consistency and predictability, which leads to economic
  development
 Leverage public investment with private development

                                                          15

Editor's Notes

  1. Through a united community vision, you can base each future development decision on that Comprehensive Plan. This happens to be the 20-year vision for downtown Jena that came out of their comprehensive planning process. Why was this important for Jena? What was going on before? How have things changed?
  2. Again, if we continue to develop with little or no planning, we will lose our uniqueness as a place. Louisiana is not another ‘Anywhere, USA.’ We cannot afford further loss of our rural and coastal characterand culture. We are constantly threatened with economic decline, impaired water bodies, and lack of infrastructure maintenance, and if we do not plan accordingly, we will be facing a unsustainable future...
  3. I am taking this presentation around the parish to get the word out about the plan and there is growing support. Here are some of the supporters so far, though we hope to keep adding more.
  4. Thank you for your time today. If you would like to find out more about the planning effort, please go to our website or contact me. Again, if you would like to receive periodic updates about the plan, please make sure you name is on our email list and follow Lafourche Parish on Facebook. As the project continues, there will also be a website that will keep you apprised of the developments with the plan.
