Symantec's London vision 2014 event more details emerge on the company split
IDC attended Symantec's Vision 2014 symposium which took place in London on October 21–22. During the event, a team of Symantec's top executives discussed the rationale behind the decision to separate Symantec into two public companies — one company grouping Symantec's security business and the other focused on information management. The executives also presented the company's strategy going forward in terms of product and services updates in the unified security solutions and unified information management areas. Symantec devoted the second day of the event to discuss with partners market trends and opportunities and how the company split should bring benefits to the company and its partners.
The decision to separate Symantec into two independent public companies was announced on October 9 and is expected to be completed by the end of December 2015. Last year, Symantec's global revenues stood at $6.7 billion; after the split the new security focused Symantec is estimated to be a $4.2 billion business accounting for approximately 62% of Symantec's current total business, with the new information management company expected to account for the remaining $2.5 billion in revenue.

No sólo para comentar lo que aquí comparta con vosotros, sino también para que vosotros compartáis con todo el mundo vuestras propias experiencias. La idea es que vosotros me contéis lo que consideréis interesante para todos los Leaners y que yo lo use para alguna de mis columnas. En este número os voy a contar el viaje que hicimos mi mujer, Victoria, y yo por Etiopía. Un país impresionante, con una diversidad y unas diferencias sorprendentes. Cisco's FY 2Q14 Earnings Reflect IDC's 3rd Platform Journey
Cisco reported second-quarter revenue of $11.2 billion, which was down 8% year-over-year but in line with expectations. While some areas like switching and service provider orders declined, data center revenue grew 10% and security revenue grew 17%. IDC believes Cisco is making the transition to address the "third platform" of cloud, mobile, social, and big data but needs to accelerate offerings in collaboration and wireless to fully meet new customer demands. Long-term, Cisco's strategy plays into the emerging software-defined and Internet of Things environments but the company must better handle product life cycles during a time of transition and changing purchasing models.

El Observatorio ComputerWorld-IDC es un documento fundamental para los directivos responsables de la compra de Tecnologías de la Información en nuestro país, a los que ofrece una detallada visión del mercado TIC español, con indicadores económicos, y un profundo análisis de las tecnologías y servicios disponibles en el mercado.

IDC e IDG Communications han lanzado al mercado la primera edición del Observatorio ComputerWorld-IDC, fruto de una estrecha colaboración entre la editorial de información TI y la consultora.
El Observatorio ComputerWorld-IDC es un documento fundamental para los directivos responsables de la compra de Tecnologías de la Información en nuestro país, a los que ofrece una detallada visión del mercado TIC español, con indicadores económicos, y un profundo análisis de las tecnologías y servicios disponibles en el mercado.
La primera entrega del Observatorio ComputerWorld-IDC ofrece un minucioso análisis de las predicciones de IDC para el mercado TIC en el presente año. Además, la consultora analiza el escenario económico actual, con las previsiones más destacadas para el mercado ibérico, y aporta una serie de indicadores TIC que dan a conocer cómo está evolucionando el gasto TIC en España por sectores (Servicios TIC, Software empaquetado, Sistemas, Almacenamiento, Periféricos, Equipamiento y Servicios de telecomunicaciones…) y cuáles son las perspectivas para este año.
Asimismo, tras realizar varias encuestas a directivos de la demanda (CIO y decisores de la compra de las TIC en las empresas), en este barómetro se brinda una panorámica general sobre la valoración de éstos en lo que respecta a la situación económica en general y al sector TIC en particular; cuáles son sus prioridades en inversión TIC; cuál es su valoración de la oferta y los principales proveedores de cada sector, etc. Además, se incorpora un análisis específico sobre un sector dinámico y cambiante como es el mercado de servicios de impresión.
El primer Observatorio ComputerWorld-IDC incluye también varios reportajes a fondo sobre tecnologías como cloud computing, business intelligence, seguridad, comunicaciones, gobierno TI, CPD, almacenamiento, impresión y software de gestión. Importantes CIO del mercado aportan su valoración sobre estas tendencias en diversas entrevistas incluidas en este barómetro.
Finalmente, el Observatorio revela las principales conclusiones de un debate organizado por ComputerWorld con la colaboración de IDC, en el que los máximos directivos de Information Builders, Microstrategy y SAP, analizan las principales tendencias de un segmento creciente como pocos actualmente en el sector TIC: el business intelligence.
