 According to Bureau of Labor Statistics data, 46% of new
tech positions have been awarded to women since the
start of 2013.
 Meanwhile, the unemployment rate for all tech
professionals was 3.5% in the first quarter, compared to 7.7%
for the overall U.S. workforce.
 Unemployment specifics in IT, including Web developers
(1%), network architects (1.7%), software developers (2.2%)
and database administrators (2.8%).

 Less than 10% of venture-backed companies have female co-
founders
 women make up around a third of the workforce in technology but

12. Future WIT, Rethinking Girls Toys
How impactful are toys to children’s development, especially for girls?
 Interestingly, toys that traditionally are viewed as male oriented,
(construction toys and toy vehicles, for example) elicited the highest
quality play among girls.

13. Google’s Summer of Code, 2014
 Open to male and female students, 18yrs or older.
 Girls in the programs are referred to as “Systers”… 
 Contributions are to real-world products!
 Partnered with the Anita Borg Institute
 Google wanted kids to spend their summer’s more
productively: “Flip bits instead of flipping burgers”
