Presentation with my private opinions about 2018 for #omgkrk community. It's second time I do this kind of presentation. I hope It will be useful also here at slideshare, and a bit more popular than YT Rewind 2018 ;). Top Kraków's startups, Spotlight - startups to watch, important and interesting events in 2018.

3. Huge „techlash” – crticism around startups
was always there but 2018 was the year
when general public realized the downsides
of the whole tech-industry; „bro-culture”,
„me too” movement, privacy issues, impact
on democracy, impact of new technologies
on current jobs and markets.

5. A lot of talking about AI but at the
end of the day it’s still not really
there. Plus, companies that
invested heavily in AI had
difficulty to gain proper margin
from the market for this „extra
mile” they took.

In 2017 I said that next year we will
see flood of money into startups
and a symbol of that was Bridge
Alfa VC programme.
We have seen at least 3 serious
earthquakes for Bridge Alfa VC.

• It’s unclear: Do we have smaller community than Wrocław or our
startups do not engage in the Startup Poland FoundationSurvey so
much? (*SPF doesn’t report on community size, only the number of respondents)
• Either way it should be better.

• It’s easy to poke gaps in the methodologythat led to result like that but it
does not change anything. „No matter if you are right if you still lose”.

• Comparing to other cities, there is a
big space for improvement of
engagement of the city-gov in
business, technology and startups.
• We are hearing promises of startups
space owned by the city for last 6-7
years and still have only visualization.
• It seems that although it was an
election year we have seen slight
drop of engagement of the city in
startup community.

All the informationwe have shows that this is a success story and very
promissingopening of Zendesk in Poland. Period.

• Under the target but still not bad: 20 mln PLN
• Difficult year at GPW and still good result:
kudos!
• Aquisition of BASK

• Beacon market is changening: less gadgets
more industrial solutions
• Estimote delivered LTE Beacon and showed
readiness to be a platform for complex
industrial solutions
• Kontakt changed CEO – maybe also a sign of
aligning with the change on the market
• Fior Market report shows them as top10 in the
World beacon providers!
We have in Krakow two major global players in
this segment

16. • Incrediblegrowth of brand awareness, a lot of prizes and
globalrecognition of intelectualproperty in Synerise
• Clients like: Żabka, Orange, Carrefour, Raifesen Bank etc.
• EY TOP30 innovative companiesglobally
• Big growth, big revenue
• With maybe less fancy product than Synerise they compete
with them with outstanding sales execution
• Interestinglocal rivalry
• We do not know much but they have showed few new
clients
