FREE Korean Lessons from Korea University (Cyber University of Korea) Aaron Snowberger
I recently stumbled upon one of the BEST online educational programs for Korean I've ever seen - and it's entirely FREE! - And it's produced by a top team of scholars from a subsidiary university of Korea University (the Cyber University of Korea).
This PPT is a quick run-through of ALL the documentation available on the CUK Korean website.
I personally find it much nicer and easier to consume a LOT of information in a quick and easy manner using a Slideshow. So, I spent some time boiling this down to its main points to share with the Korean language learning community at large!
Hope you enjoy the PPT, and hope you enjoy the new FREE class at CUK too!~ 화이팅!~

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
2. Introduction
• Alright! We are now on our second lesson!
This means that you have learned how to
write Korean letters. Awesome!
• So this lesson we will revise the previous
lesson, and then learn to write some common
Korean phrases that you should know.
• So let’s get started!
3. Review of the past
The previous lesson focused
on Korean Alphabets- both
consonants and vowels. This
is a very simple chart that
shows how to mix
consonants and vowels to
get the sound we require.
Remember, Consonant
comes first!
This chart does not include
double consonants and
vowels, but they follow the
same rule.
Feel free to take your time
and practice, then move on
to the next slide.
4. Before we go the next lesson..
• I’ll give some words in romanisation, try to write
them in Korean! You can do it!
• San- Mountain
• Bada- Sea
• Saja- Lion
• Aachim- Morning
• Siksa- Meal
• Baji- Pants
• Sogeum- Salt
5. Some common Korean phrases
• Let’s say you are in Korea, or you meet a
Korean in your country. Just like in any
language, we say hello, right?
• “Hello” in Korean is Annyeonghaseyo or
안녕하세요. To write this the best way is to
separate the sounds.
• Like An+Nyeong+ha+se+yo =안+녕+하+세+요
8. • Remember that all these
words are in
격식체 (Honorific speech) is
used when you speak to
your superiors, customers,
or strangers.
• Some of them are in
존대말 (Polite speech) is
the common polite form
that you can use at work or
with someone you don’t
know very well. This is the
form (“–요” ending ).
Some common Korean phrases
9. Conclusion
• With this we come to the end of this lesson.
The informal language or 반말 (Informal
speech) is used among close friends, to
somebody younger than you, or to children, is
not used in this lesson.
• Practice more and you will be fluent in no
time! 화이팅! 안녕히 가세요!
