Relevant knowledge in road maintenance or asset
management
I have in excess of six years work experience in Local Government where I have
gained immeasurable knowledge in asset management including road, bridge
and culvert maintenance.
Experience and knowledge of modern computer
technology, computer applications and the Windows
environment, particularly databases and GIS
applications
I am proficient in the use of Microsoft Words, Desktop Publishing, Power Point,
Excel, MYOB, Quicken, SAP, TRIM, GIS, MapInfo, Conquest, Authority,
AutoCAD and Microsoft Access.
On commencement of employment at the Orange City Council it was brought to
my attention that Council had purchased a Trimble GPS device seven years prior
but had not used it. Using my own initiative I contacted the supplier who trained
me in the use of the device. After speaking with Council staff in the field on the
use of the device and how it could progress data collection and reduce paper
work I was able to instigate a plan to utilise the Trimble GPS device in the work
place.
I am please to declare the Council now has four Trimble GPS devices in the work
place and four computers in maintenance trucks enabling staff in the field to log
onto the Council server for live map updates of Council owned and managed
assets.
Well developed analytical and problem solving skills
I was fortunate to gain employment with Walgett Shire Council in 2005 as an
Asset Officer. On commencement of my employment I was asked by the
manager of engineering to take over the position of crown lands in the short term,
due to the recent death of the position holder in a car accident.
I was shown her desk and told ‘I don’t know anything about what she was doing
can you just do it’. I was able to identify that Council had over 600 crown
reserves in the shire in doing so I introduced booking procedures and fee and
charges for the use of over 60 reserves. Negotiating leases and licenses
simultaneously on behalf of Council as Reserve Trust Secretary ensuring that
Councils regulatory responsibility were met under the Crown Land Act 1989.

manage and analyses data, evaluate outputs and
prepare written and graphical reports
I have successfully worked with fellow staff members to complete an intensive
audit of Councils assets, ensuring that all assets are accurately mapped,
described, depreciated and logged into Councils Asset Management program.
It is important to consultant with all stakeholders including engineers, accountant,
technical officers and team leaders to ensure all management and regulatory
requirement are achieved.
I am able to analyses data and evaluate outputs by the completion of queries on
the asset management systems data.
I have extensive experience in correspondence and report writing including
graphical reports for Local Government.
During my employment as Reserve Trust Secretary I regularly prepared
correspondence and reports for the General Manager, Councils Administrator
and Councils Solicitor to rate payers, Government Departments and Ministers.
Well developed Self-management and communication
skills and the ability to deal tactfully with people at all
levels
I pride myself on my organisation ability and my capability to manage a number
of projects concurrently.
In my role as Reserve Trust Secretary I was required to manage land and
property sales, building maintenance, lease and licenses, bookings of parks and
sports facilities, mapping of water, sewage and road assets including preparation
of reserve trust financial reports simultaneously.
I have vast experience in conducting meetings including the professional
representations of Councils, Orange City Council and Walgett Shire Council at
conference where I have spoken on Asset Management.
As Reserve Trust Secretary of Walgett Shire Council I was first point of contact
for community groups using any of Councils managed reserves. I was actively
involved in organising and facilitating community forums where a high level of
negotiation skills and customer service skills were required.
In my current position it has been necessary to train staff in the use of new
computer programs that I have initiated. I have been required to training all staff
who are at different levels of management and abilities.
Knowledge of management/information systems and
data used maintenance planning
As GIS/Asset Officer in my current employment I am accountable for the
preparation of end year financial reports in relation to Council assets including
depreciation schedules and the maintenance of all Councils asset data bases.
Following the commencement of my employment at the Orange City Council I
indentified that asset data was held in a number of different types of data bases
(GIS, excel, access), some of the data was duplicated and not current.
I was able to manipulate the data condensing it into one data base ensuring that
the most current data was maintained and easily accessible to all stake holders.
I have recently update Council roads data based from lines on a map to polygons
hence road segments and road edges can be effortlessly identified for ease of
maintenance planning.
