Sawm: The Pillar of Islam
 One of the Five Pillars of Islam.
 The foundational acts of Ibadat for
Muslims.
 Muslims fast from dawn until
sunset.
 Abstain from food, drink, and
intimate relations.
 After this one month of self-control,
wish each other Eid Mubarak!
How Prophet (PBUH) Used to
Start and Break His Fast?
 The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to
start his fast with Suhoor (pre-dawn
meal).
 After Suhoor, he would observe his
prayer.
 He used to break his Sawm before
performing Maghrib prayer.
 He used to take three fresh date fruits or
three dry dates in Iftar.
 He would take three draughts of water if
there were no dry date fruits.
Suhoor Dua
“Wa bisawmi ghadinn
nawaiytu min shahri
Ramadan”
“I intend to keep the fast for
tomorrow in the month of
Ramadan”
Suhoor:
 Ramadan fasting starts with
Suhoor or Sehri.
 Muslims believe it brings
Barakah and Strength to
observe the fast.
What to take in Suhoor?
 Suhoor should be a wholesome and
nutritious meal.
 Include foods that provide sustained energy
throughout the day, such as complex
carbohydrates, proteins, and healthy fats.
 Examples include whole grains, eggs, fruits,
vegetables, and dairy products.
What if You Miss Suhoor?
 If one unintentionally misses Suhoor, the
fast is still valid.
 Wake up early enough and have
something before the Fajr prayer.
Iftar:
 Ramadan fasting ends with Iftar
which is done after the sunset.
 It is a moment of showing Shukr
for the day's fasting.
Iftar Dua
“Allahumma laka
sumtu wa ala rizq-
ika-aftartu”
“O Allah! For You, I
have fasted and upon
your provision, I have
broken my fast.”
What to take in Iftar?
 Begin with dates and water, as per the Sunnah of
the Prophet (PBUH).
 A balanced meal consisting of fruits, soups,
grilled meats or fish, carbohydrates, and fluids.
 Avoid overeating to maintain good health
throughout Ramadan.
What if You Miss Iftar?
 If one unintentionally misses Iftar, the
fast remains valid.
 Break the fast as soon as possible after
realizing the time has passed.

  1. Ramadan is considered the sacred month for all the Muslims across the globe, as it allows every believer of Allah (SWT) to gain double blessings with sincere Duas. It is a common belief that during this month, that the gates of heaven are opened and all the devils are chained, so be ready to strengthen your bond with Allah (SWT).
  2. Sawm, or fasting, is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. It's a fundamental act of Ibadat observed during the sacred month of Ramadan. Muslims fast from dawn until sunset, without food, drink, and other physical needs. After this one month of self-control, there comes the biggest festival when Muslims wish each other Eid Mubarak!

Drinking plenty of water is also essential to stay hydrated during the fast. If one misses Suhoor for any reason, the fast is still valid, and one should continue fasting as usual. However, try to wake up early enough and have something before the Fajr prayer. 
  6. Ramadan fasting ends with Iftar. It is a moment of showing Shukr for the day's fasting. Recite the dua before taking your food during the iftar.
