This document discusses creating welcome videos for research or teaching. It provides tips for scripting, recording, and giving feedback on welcome videos. The presentation guides participants through writing a script, recording a sample video, and offering feedback on a colleague's video. Videos can be used for instruction, introductions, and sharing research.
This document outlines three steps for an effective conclusion to a speech: 1) Signal the end, which can be done explicitly by saying "in conclusion" or implicitly by referencing what points were previously discussed. 2) Reiterate the main points of the speech to reinforce them for the audience. 3) Use a dramatic statement to summarize the speech, such as building up to a big finish (crescendo), leaving the audience with something to think about (diminish), or referring back to the opening (circular). Some additional tips are to stay on message, not introduce new information, answer any questions, and thank the audience before ending.
